I get the Xmas shopping bug in November because I hate the crowds. I do not have much to buy, so I am almost done with the gift part, but not the decorations. For me it is still too soon. I will put the candels in the windows in another week, or two - I did put a wreath on the door, though. I have a 3' live tree waiting on the deck for it's lights and ornaments. I also started addressing cards yesterday. I guess I am way ahead of you SiberianTigress, but do not worry! Those lights will jump out and grab you in the garage the next time you are in there.... they have a way of knowing what time of year it is!
always have to many people to buy for, don't mind for the kids but the adults is drudgery.
Tree half up
shopping half done
attitude, working on it
Me!! I have trunks and trunks of Christmas stuff...some over 100 yrs old that is up in the rafters of my garage but I have to wait until one of my boys comes home to drag them all down...if I try, I'll be making everyone mosaic gifts from the broken pieces! As for gifts, other than all the Santa presents, I am in the same boat ST...I usually do all my shopping a few days before Christmas and all at once...somehow, I get my best ideas for what everyone would like best then...:o)
Have a great holiday...:o)
I have moved so got my cards out early Monday with the address change cards inside. I just moved from a house after 35 years to a townhouse.
I am in the middle of unpacking and trying to do Christmas. I have over 45 bins of Christmas decorations but am sorting and giving most of them to charity. Trying to simplify my house and life with the new change.
Like Joanne 126, I always have to wait till one of the kids comes over to get all the bins from the attic and now with my new place I am downsizing and trying to be able to handle more on my own. I'll let you know how that goes.....
Decoration up (thanks to my daughter) shopping almost done.....not doing much of that this year. I bought my daughter silver while in NM....and I have a couple other things to do.
To be honest, the past few years I've done very little decorating, or none at all. At first, I chalked it up to a second job taking up my free time, and the year I had surgeries and radation treatment I didn't have a lot of energy. Last year I traveled.....but I realized just yesterday (great timing for this post!) that those were just excuses.
Even though I have decorations I've had for decades, some of them have other, less pleasant associations. The little tree I can decorate until it's got literally hundreds of decorations and looks really impressive? I just don't want to deal with it. It's the tree I put up by myself the year my daughter was more than a handful. The tree of the year of the worthless boyfriend.....the list goes on and on.
So just yesterday I bought some new decorations and I'm not even getting the old ones out, other than the Nativity scene and wreath I've used before. I bought a small strand of mini-lights and a garland of silver for the mantel and then I added a small silver ornament display-holder and just put an assortment of blue and silver ornaments on it. Simple, different, and I'm happy with the results.
Not to mention, when it's time to put Christmas back in the box, I'll be done in just a few minutes.
One of the greatest pleasures at this time of year is trimming the tree - my mother and I do it the day before Christmas, then take it down about 5 days later. Since the season is not about my birthday, but Jesus, it is nice to have something special up for His day. My family has done this for years, even when I was young. It just amazes me that people put it up before Thanksgiving and leave it up until after New Years. Just saying.
Yep, I am ready.
Yep:
Got all Christmas cards out Dec. 1. Got outside deco's up yesterday, Started doing the inside of house today. Any gifts I give will soon be here. Smug? You betcha! Not always this good other years. Now, I can almost rest on my laurels & enjoy the festivities. Have a very Merry Christmas. Lotuslouse.
