Mike we're waiting

From your research and the long discussion what did you decide?

DVR or TIVO?

The results of the survey were inconclusive, or should I say indecisive, or should I say unconvincing!

I'm going to hold off for now.

I remember when cable first became available in Madison. My wife and I held off for a while because "why would anybody pay for something that's free?" and "who needs all those channels anyhow?"

After finally breaking down and getting basic cable we decided to get HBO - seemed okay to pay for movies if we're already paying for TV! As the kids got old enough to watch TV unsupervised, we canceled HBO because we felt it had inappropriate programming during times that the kids might be watching TV. I've never ordered any premium channels since! That was about a quarter of a century ago. I don't miss it, I hear all the "great" things that are on HBO and Showtime and the other premium channels, but it just doesn't interest me at all.

I feel the same about DVR, etc. If it was free, I might get it. I do have Showtime and Starz right now because they "forced" it on me for free - both will automatically cancel this month or next and I won't be renewing them -- I won't pay for it.

DVR, on the other hand, could be fun and handy but I just don't think it would be fun or handy enough to pay for it. I think Directv charges a monthly fee plus you have to buy the receiver for a couple hundred bucks unless you can find one as part of a promotion.

So, for now, I'm still in the dark ages!

Now just reach for a good book. I just got done with a good one. "The Innocent Man" A true book by John Grisham. ...and you...being a lawyer and all....well I think you would find this book very interesting.

I figured I don't have any bad habits, so I am rewarding myself with a DVR....it suits me. Besides, as long as I live in the North, I need to pamper myself with indoor activities....maybe when or if I move to a warmer climate, I will think differently!

But thanks for taking us along on your decision making Mike!

Mike - with comcast you can record programs you are not able to watch and can watch later. We used to have dish , but I like this much better. you can also record hbo etc. as pay per view. I like all the options.

Unless Comcast has added something new that I don't know about (which is entirely possible), I think the Comcast recording is done with a DVR, which is available with "the dish" as well.

Please let me know if I'm wrong -- I love to hear about new technology.
