Interesting idea. Many reserves would have their jobs back, but only if their companies are still in biz. Active duty military would be reassigned, perhaps... and mainly, the world would know, without a doubt, what many of us have all along - we have a wimpy untrained potUS. Aggressions against US and allied interests will escalate.
Just a guess.
I've been saying for years that it's high time to bring the troops home, all of them. Bring our troops home from Afghanistan & Iraq, and also from England, Italy, France, Japan, Korea, The Philippines, Turkey and all the other places they really don't want us or even like us. Put the troops on the borders and in the ports where they can do the job the constitution says we have them for, protecting the United States. Intercepting illegal aliens at the border and stopping container ships full of AK-47s from China will go a long way in solving our problems.

If we would send the illegals home and make it not worth the cost for employers to hire them, the unemployment problem would lessen considerably. There would be more opportunity for the soldiers as well, plus many of them might go to college upon returning as well.
Keep them on active duty and assign them to the Corps of Engineers for infrastructure maintenance. Rotate them to pull two weeks per year on the southern border. Release them from service when requested, as jobs become available.
Obama did say tonight that we're out of there (Afghanistan) in 18 months. His heart is definitely not in winning that thing. All the bad guys have to do now is wait us out.
I had wondered also, what will happen if they bring them all home. Especially if the job thing isn't any better.
We have a largely professional military. So, if the troops came home they would still be employed by the USA as a standing Army and Marine Corps.

It doesn't speak too kindly of a Commander-in-Chief that is more concerned with getting out than winning. He wanted out of Gitmo too and set a deadline but has learned that when a novice thinks he knows things he doesn't, setting deadlines doesn't mean carp.
I just got this in an email and thought it fit this question.
What did Hoover, Truman, and Eisenhower have in common?
Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around.
I didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me.
Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the
deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American
citizens that desperately needed work..
Harry Truman deported over two million Illegals after WWII to create jobs
for returning veterans.
And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million
Mexican Nationals! The program was called 'Operation Wetback'. It was
done so WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better chance at jobs.
It took 2 Years, but they deported them!
Now...if they could deport the illegals back then - they could sure do it today.
Obama's second mistake was to bring the state of the economy into a war plan. It is another signal to the enemy to hold out until we fold. It doesn't matter if the economy is weak. War should be an all-out effort, and war production actually strengthens the economy. Remember WWII?
.
I'd like to see us bring ALL of our soldiers back from EVERY country which is not our friend. Depor EVERY illegal and close ANY immigration for 2 years...people can put in applications during this time, but they will be checked out and ONLY allowed if they contribute gainfully to our society.
Soldiers can be placed on the borders and ALLOWED to act appropriately. I know that currently they cannot work with the local police departments, but I think they should be allowed to help clean up the drug lords/dealers already established here.
As KC suggested, they could help maintain our highways, bridges, etc..
