Long Term Care Awareness Month

November is Long Term Care Awareness Month. It is estimated that over 70% of the people over the age of 65 will need some form of long term care. I have been a caregiver all my life. As a GCM and PhD in geriatrics I understand the necessity for planning ahead for yourself and with your aging loved ones. Long Term Care and planning for your future as you age can be difficult topics for those over the age of 65 who are still fit and healthy as well for families who are making the decision about an aging loved one's future. As we welcome the holidays and reflect on November as Long Term Care Awareness Month it is important to address how prepared are we for our future needs and for those for whom we are taking care.

Genworth Financial is addressing this issue in its December campaign. For more information go to www.genworth.com/celebrates

how do you safely get a legitimate long term care policy that does not pay the seller more $$ and you the buyer less bennies?

I got mine from my financial advisor after checking with my regular insurance person. The thing that I learned about long-term health insurance is that they usually cover you for about 36 months in long-term care. Also, the policy should cover you for a daily amount regardless of where you are living so you could hire help a home if you wanted to.
