OTG Communities

This is information from the EcoVillage network of the Americas. It is a WORLDWIDE group of sustainable villages. Included is a link to a form where you can find a community in your area or an area you dream of moving too. Check it out!

ENA's Primary Objectives
• To promote and nurture new and existing ecovillages within the Americas
• To network ecovillages with each other, sharing resources and practices, and coordinating collaborative activities
• To promote the understanding and use of ways of living in harmony with each other and the Earth through the research, development and demonstration of sustainable living strategies
• To share the work and inspiration of the ecovillage movement with society at large through demonstration projects, educational programs, networking conferences and meetings with government and other organizations.

There wasn't one around here either, Hippiemama. I did spend an interesting afternoon touring an historic flour and meal mill on a nearby river this past summer though. Perhaps I'll make it to the historical re-enactment site next spring or summer, just to get some ideas on things that can be done without involving the REMC. In this area I think my greatest assets will be wind and possibly hydro power.

i worked for waterloo village, a colonial village re-enactment town, for several years. both on the mainland which was the village, and on the island which went further back into an indian island. the education was priceless. it changed my life and my kids life. and we worked all day, without any electric. did everything, as if we lived then. and how funny, we all loved our jobs. (not so much the corsets)

thats why, i keep saying, this electricity, is a new fangled thing. because really, in the 1800's and early 1900's, there was none, none at all. yet we all survived.

I sometimes think of how toned my arms would be if I was beating area rugs with a wire beater instead of running a vacuum over wall to wall. How trim my waist might be if I were twisting and lifting those items out of the basket and onto the line to dry. I don't have the self discipline to take the time I save with those labor saving devices and turn it into hours of work-out routines to stay in shape.

I'm glad I have the opportunity to choose.

your making me laugh. my waiste is not small, and my arms arent toned. i bang those rugs atleast twice a year, and hang laundry, 3 loads a day. i also cut wood and stack it , 3-4 cords at a time. i do take the time, but alas, the body doesnt show it.
