None that I know of ,just keep history, and cookies cleaned out,and run a good cleaner like CCleaner and a Anti-Malware.That should help.
max out your ram, this old box won't go higher than 512. looking into finding a up for my mobo.
sometimes, on older machines , if you update the mobo , you can ,sometimes, add more ram.

Nobody has sked the big questions -
What kind of computer (Brand and model)
RAM (How much)
Hard drive (size, partitioned, space left)
Are you trying to run something most people don't (huge database, do CAD, heavy graphics etc)
Did you noticed it slowed down especially after you loaded a program
Have you downloaded all operating system updates
What virus type programs do you have

Most programs that advertise speeding up your machine don't do much.
The CPU is what it is. The factory sets the speed and is done with it. Gamers have been known to "overclock" the CPU. This is expensive because you must add a fancy heat sink so the CPU doesn't break. I do not recommend it.
In general the more memory you have the faster the machine will run. You want at least 4GB for a 32bit machine and 6GB for a 64bit machine.
Disk drives can cause slow response. Some drives are 5400 rpm and others are 7200 rpm. The 7200 rpm give you your data faster. In addition drives have some memory that helps speed things up and some have more memory than others.
If you are dealing with large databases I would recommend replacing your drive with a Raid 0 drive.
All things being equal you will get about 15% improvement compared to a standard drive.

handsomeman,
one thing is certain, don't be fooled by the TV ads for things like "Finally Fast.com". They promise much but may not deliver.
Let us know more about your machine, and perhaps we can make recommendations.
But, like cathbad wrote, "it is what it is".

Maybe better than trying to speed up you machine is to try to find out why is it running slow.
There are a bunch of benchmark tools that measure your CPU, your memory, your graphics card, your internet connection, etc...
Also use Task Manager to see if any background processes are taking up CPU cycles.
If there is a problem it will show up in one or more of those benchmarks, then you will know where to start looking for a solution.

causes of it running slow..your connection speed, not enough memory, too many applications open, too many programs on the startup so you have tons running in the background, too much clutter on the machine...we can go on....

Amazing question. Every software vendor from the big guys to the back-of-garage geek has a program that will promise you the fastest machine on earth. We're all looking for the Holy Grail. Yep, Amond and others are right on the money--you gotta keep your rig clean and lean.
