Why is American law so backward? This do not call registration is just like our laws on slander. If one is slandered here, one must take the slanderer to court and prove whatever statements made are not true. In England, the onus is on the slander when taken to court. It is for the slanderer to prove their statements true.
It's the same with constantly registering for these no call lists. Most everyone wants to be on them because no one cares for telemarketing calls. Why is there not a "call list" where those who want telemarketing calls can register their desire to receive these calls? That way the markets can't call anyone unless they choose to receive the call. It's like having an unpublished phone number. It costs money to publish every phone book, yet we have to pay the phone companies not to have our number published!
I think the reason American law is so backward is because our elected officials are so backward (and paid off).
Want to hear the latest in "backward" politics? Senator Kohl recently introduced a bill called the "PACT" bill (Prevent All Cigarette Trafficing Act) in May of 2009. With the price of cigarettes now up to an average of around $7.00 a pack in Wisconsin ($10.00 a pack in New York), black markets for cigarettes are now cropping uip all over the country. Kohl's bill will provide for outlawing the sale of tobacco on the Internet and provide new law enforcement personnel (ATF) to enforce the bill when it is signed into law. The justification for the bill is the suspicion that terrorists are now selling black market tobacco products in order to finance their endeavors. Of course, more law enforcement personnel will result in more arrests, more arrests result in more judicial personnel resulting in more convictions, more convictions will result in the building of new jails. Where is the money for all this coming from? You! Tobacco use has been of a downward spiral, so the taxes collected from it certainly is not enough to cover the costs. I wrote to both Kohl and Feingold regarding my opinion about this and they both blew me off saying this bill is necessary. Is it? I wrote asking them to use their common sense. Why not just drop the tobacco taxes added over the past two years and there would be no black market demand and we will not need any new taxes to pay for all this new law enforcement. After all, it's the new taxes that created this mess in the first place! You'd think Kohl and Feingold maybe had an ounce of common sense, but they don't.
Suggest to these senators a "call list" to replace a "no call" list and you'll get blown off by them as well.
Maybe England will take us back -- we could just admit we're a bunch of dummies and ask them to forget about that whole taxation without representation misunderstanding. I'm sure they'd welcome us back. Then we'd have their great healthcare, too. We're such failures. boo hoo!
Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt.

Was on this list for years and always renewed when due. Non profit organizations are exempt and also companies that you do business with. so that leaves me with phone calls from my phone company, my charge card companies and ALL the places that I purchase from (which is a lot). I have caller I.D. and if it comes up unavailable....well then ...so am I !!!!....and boy do I dodge a lot of calls!!!!
