Well, It's That Time Again...

Some of us already did it, some are getting ready to do it. I'm talking about decorating the Christmas tree. What do you put on your tree? Some old heirloom ornaments maybe, or ones the children or grandchildren made for you? How about the lights? Little twinkles or big bulbs? How about the old ones with the water bubbling? Those were my favorites. All white, or multicolors?

This will probably shock you all, but my tree is a nautical theme. I try to get a new lighthouse ornament a year, but I didn't get one this year. But I've got plenty, so no bog whoop. But I have many beautiful lighthouse ornaments, and seashells, sailor Santas, fish. It's so pretty.
I've never found a suitable tree topper though. It doesn't have to be a lighthouse, but wouldn't it be cool to have an angel holding a lighthouse? :-)

Years ago I saw a tree in a florist shop that was called a Celestial tree - all blue and gold ornaments, stars, suns, moons... I fell in love with it and slowly built up my own. It's varied somewhat in that I have added ornaments from every place I have visited, but I try to get those brass ones so the color theme stays intact. I use the white small lights, I have a giant glittery gold star on the top, and ribbons of blue and gold coming down the sides. Sometimes I think about doing something different, but I always love the way it looks. I love that everyone has different trees, with different themes, different colors, different rationales behind them! It makes the trees so beautiful to look at and enjoy - once they're up - but what a pain getting them up (and worse yet - taking them down!)

We decorate ours Thanksgiving night. We usually put it up the Wednesday before and let the kids decorate it after Thanksgiving dinner. Then over the weekend the we arrange it the way we like, the kids never catch on.
That whole scenario is changing rapidly though, the older ones want no part of it. Two of the kids weren't even in town this year.
We have ornaments dating back to my Dad's and we buy one or two every year, so it's quite a collection now.
