Greatest Thanksgiving Ever

In what is becoming a holiday tradition, Lori and I gathered ourselves at the Downtown 29 Palms Denny's Coffee Shop to give thanks for our 29 years of friendship together.

The next day old friends arrived with their two adult children for a tour of Joshua Tree National Park. That was a ball.

The weather was perfect -- about 74F with bright sunshine and no wind -- then a storm system moved in last night. After warm sun for the Holiday ... we had snow on the mountains coming home!

(Photo to follow.)

How about you guys? Anything new 'round here? Anyone have a decent Thanksgiving?

Oh it sounds so nice, I'm glad you and Lori had a nice time. We went out to dinner once for Thanksgiving, I liked it but no left overs.

We had a nice dinner a day early because my daughter had to work. So on Thursday I just ate pie!! Really, three kinds, just one piece each though. LOL

Pie is my favorite. I had the pumpkin pie at Denny's with coffee before dinner. Lori looked shocked, but I told her I was going to eat pie in any event, so it didn't really matter when.

Lori took this photo while climbing a large rock in the Hidden Valley section of Joshua Tree National Park. You can just make out her friend Suzi at left below, in the black top, and that's me on the right. Taken yesterday before the storm front moved in.

I cooked for my family - 3 daughters, 1 son, 2 son-in-laws, 1 daughter-in-law, 7 grandaughters and 5 significant
others, 2 grandsons, 1 grand daughter-in law, 3 great grandaughters - 25! A very good time and lots of food as everyone brought something. Very happy and bittersweet - this was the first year I have cooked since my husband died - funny how you can still be lonely in a crowd. But, I am very blessed - 2 grandaughter are prego - my cup runneth over.

Happy Holidays to you, Cathiebeth, and my condolences on the passing of your husband. Holidays are tough, as I can attest to from my divorce. I still think of my First around the Holidays more than at any other time of the year.

Great to see you cooking again! I had something similar in that I was cranking away with my video camera in years 2000 - 2001. Then my stroke hit in 2002 and I didn't pick up that camera again until this last summer of 2009. It took me a full seven years to get back to what I had really enjoyed doing pre-stroke.

It's not the same circumstance, I know. I'm just saying that *time* can help us return to activities we really should be doing ... like making good food and silly online videos....

How beautiful Skeeter I love snow storms when they blow in. Minnesota has lots of them.

ladystorm, it is wonderful that God made people such as yourself who actually like snow storms. My own preference is the snow flurry which arrives about 4 am and is off the ground by 10:00.

This is taken in a pass between the Inland Empire (Riverside) and the Mojave-Sonora Deserts called Banning - Beaumont. Banning is one town, and directly adjacent to it is Beaumont. Ergo, this pass to the desert is known as "the Banning - Beaumont area" on our local news media.

We often see snow at the tops of the mountains here, but never this far down. Quite special for us, really. Even though we had only the time to pass rapidly by on the highway.

Skeeter: I like to look at snow in pictures but after years of white knuckle early morning 30mile drives to work in snow and ice in central Ohio, I'm with you on the snow flurries. We get quite a few of those here near Atlanta. If there's more, everything gets shut down. Plus, I've finally learned, if there is the slightest threat of snow flurries, my presence is required at the grocery store.

Thanksgiving was good. Just my daughter and me and we shared making a nice little dinner with lots of leftovers which we love.
