Ok, now that I've lectured everyone about not feeling guilty about being sensible with your money, let's move on to other topics. Give yourself permission to enjoy as much or as little of the Christmas season as you like. Don't overdo it because it's expected of you or you "always" have done something. Personally, I like Christmas movies (I have a growing collection of them) and Christmas music, so I'll happily indulge in that on a daily basis until we ring in the new year. I don't like wrapping presents, so I'll put that off far too long! I have a few "just in case" gifts so I won't be caught short-handed.
Our community hosts a non-denominational holiday dinner on Christmas Day, so if you want to visit with me and I'm not here, I'll be doing my shift up at the Sports Complex dishing out food not just to needy people, but singles, and families who enjoy the small-town, group style of gathering. I'll spend too much time at the computer, read too late, sleep in when the urge strikes (which is often) and I hope you will do whatever it is that helps you 1) enjoy the holidays and 2) be true to your current situation.
For those of you who are missing loved ones this Christmas for whatever reason, please feel free to pm me with your phone number and we'll chat whenever you like. Friends can't replace those missing people, but having someone to talk to and knowing someone cares can make a difference.
And if there's one thing I want to know when my days on earth are over, is that I did, in my own small way, make a difference. Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, whichever you like best from .......me.
Np hash or soup for me. Went to my sisters as usual. Got a goodie bad to bring home. Enough turkey for one more sandwich and some mac and cheese and it's back to my own cooking. ( Depressing thought ) !
Went to Immokalee to help feed the homeless & that was a most thankful gift for me & glory to the Lord. We bagged 272 bags for them & the next day was Thanksgiving. I was told they would hold Thanksgiving meal on the grounds....if it didn't rain. They expected 4000.IT DID'T RAIN! P.T.L.
I spent my Thanksgiving in our hall with 85 residents that I call my second family. We have so much to be thankful for, we should't limit it to one day, but find many.many things to be thankful for every day...spread it around & it just might become a habit...for every day. Lotuslouse.
A wonderful post HB......
Thank you for that nice post, HB; and "in your own small way" you sure are making a difference by your thoughtfulness and actions here in eons, in your community, and elsewhere.
I agree, that is a very nice post, and it makes one stop and think. ( Something I need to do more
often) So Thank You and Happy Holidays to you all.
I've been entrusted with 4 phone numbers of people who would enjoy some friendly chat during the holidays. If you'd like a call or two from me, share your number. If there's a specific day that's difficult (one member lost their spouse on the 19th and said a call that day might be nice) just let me know.
HB Thanks for being you! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Joyful New Year.
HB you are the absolute best!
I had too many challenges this year but am finally getting my little cottage built. When that is done, I will celebrate Thanksgiving. Who's to say it has to be in November? I think a February Thanksgiving will be just fine for me. And, since most of my finances are going toward the house, I am doing Christmas small. My friends and family will understand. I belong to a wonderful Hawaiian church and I have my hula, so the season is joyous regardless of circumstances.
HB what you are doing is really touching....and this is the best time to do it, I think! You are very generous, and it pays here on earth. Have a wonderful Christmas and the best to come for 2010!
