New iMAc

Finally got a new iMac. We went on Tuesday, left the eMac so the store could transfer our stuff (everyone was so enthralled with the eMac box which we still have) and then we went back to pick it up Wednesday. I took it out of the box and set it up according to the directions but the wireless mouse and keyboard weren't paired with the computer and I couldn't get them to work. And Apple Care was already closed for Thanksgivng on Wednesday afternoon and the store was too busy to try to help me. So I drove to Michigan today and left my husband instructions to have the new computer up and running by the time I get home on Tuesday. We would have saved money by shopping today but I wasn't going near any malls and Richard really wanted to go to the sotre in person. I kind of wish I had just waited until Thanksgiving was well over but it's done now.

Bummer about the keyboard and mouse......ya must be chomping at the bit to get the durn thing going.

It should be all taken care, I think, no later than Saturday. I've always had a wired keyboard and mouse handy for my Macs in case the bluetooth fails for some reason.

You might as well learn how to do it, jhhrn68. I have to re-establish connection via bluetooth every so often for my wireless keyboard and/or mouse. I have wired ones just in case I can't orI get tried of having to "pair" them again.

You just have to go to System Preferences, find the bluetooth icon, click on it, and menus will guide you! If I can do it, you can too. Good luck! Once you do get started, you're going to LOVE your new iMAC.

I couldn't get to Sys Pre because I had no way to get there without a mouse that would respond. My husband has dug out the old mouse and keyboard for now. I am away and he says I can call Apple care when I get home. Once I get home, I will figure it all out. I hope.....

jhh.....

I would have thought that the Mac would recognize at its first bootup that there wasn't a paired keyboard, and it would have asked you to power that keyboard up and it *should* have paired it without so much as a hiccup.

I guess that just didn't work? Here's a dumb question....are the batteries in the keyboard?

I was wondering if you had opened System Preferences and clicked on the blue tooth icon?

But then again you would need an active mouse or keyboard--sometimes I am absolutely underwhelmed by my brilliance.

I followed the directions for pairing the mouse and the keyboard, including turning them on and I got a green light and when it started flashing, I was supposed to click the mouse and this would pair it. But it didn't. And since I paid them to set up my computer for me, they should have done that for me. And to pack it up and take it to the store would be tons of trouble since it takes me an hour and a half to get there. But I am confident that I can solve this when I get home.

You could always threaten to replace it with a Windoze box, that might be enough incentive to start working.
