Yes, they do resemble them alot. I know my parents bought this lamp sometime around 1971, when they moved South... It's really very cool - I'd never really thought much about it until my father saw some Stiffel lamps in his hotel room on base at Camp Lejeune a couple weeks ago - he mentioned it to his sister and she told him they had one... which is now mine.
By the way, the pictures also showing above were painted by my great grandmother.... she was a very good artist - I have her pictures all over my house. The framed poster was from about 1986 when they imploded the old Charlotte Hotel (downtown Charlotte, NC) - my office was on the 12th floor of the white building beside - wow !! What a sight that was !! David Copperfield pulled a "stunt" during the implosion which was televised.
Beautiful lamp...will post my comments tomorrow. Hope all's well Sadie!
KUdos to your GGM she was a great artist!
Well it certainly has all the charm of a Stieffel Lamp. I have looked at quite a few and yours certainly seems to be one of them. Normally marks appear on the base of lamp.. sometimes on labels that are usually lost. I have not read where Ted Stiffel has his initials anywhere on his lamps or shades like Tiffany does. Here is some info on the company and TS.
Ted Stiffel founded the Stiffel Lamp Company in Chicago, USA approximately 1932.
The Stiffel Company with its great designers has always strived for old world antique charm and excellence of design and standard of product. The Stiffel Company has always been known and recognized as a leader in innovative lighting and lamp designs.
Each and every product manufactured by the Stiffel Company bears its unique foil signature reflecting exquisite finishing, meticulous detailing and proper weighting.
Stiffel Lamps are made of various metals and adorned with innovative designs. A Stiffel designed lamp is always recognizable because of its high quality and unique detail regardless if the foil signature has fallen off over the years.
You can start looking by unscrewing the base(if it can be done) and checking for any mark at all.
