A god In Ruins

Ralph Waldo Emerson says,

"Man is a god in ruins."

Would you agree?

More like a god in the fetal state.

I wouldn't agree.
"Man" is headed for ruin. I could agree with.
However, equating "man" with any conception of god could well be a major cause of the downward trajectory of mankind.

No, I would not agree even though the Bible claims we were made in His image.

I suspect any man who can believe he is God or God-like may be a ruination -- and may ruin innocent men and women.

Look at the histories of men who thought they were God; Jim Jones of the Jonestown Peoples Temple and David Koresh of the Texas Waco Wackos.

Are they the example or are they the exception?

LLL, I believe the concept of equating man and a god is more subtle and pervasive than your examples. Ideas like racism, social darwinism, male superiority, and similar concepts are rooted, I believe, in this construction.

Maybe in our youth we feel inviceable...
like the gods...feeling powerful, full of our own knowledge, feeling SO wise, feeling we are the potrait of a loving and caring person.

As the role of the gods has declined in age....

as we age...we begin to realize we are human and frail,
we KNOW very little and if we are totally honest our loving
is motivated by our own self interest.

Just guessing...could that be what he meant?

Some of us are motivated by our own self interest.
Others look at the future of our species.

The brain of man and woman

no concept of the divine experiencing itself?

Is it all about the individual experience?

If that's all there is, my friend, then let's keep dancing.
