The Mayan calendar doesn't "end" in 2012. Only one cycle, the 13th cycle of 20 "long calendars." Then the 14th begins. Up to the 20th.
If one likes to be in a state of perpetual anxiety, there are plenty of Chicken Little's about, most of whom make money making movies, selling books, preaching doom and disaster. For there are those who like to life in fear or at least have someone scare them about something.

...We affect what is going to happen to some degree by our own thoughts and deeds. In some ways 2012 will bee the change we need. I posted a thread on Psychic abilities to clarify what they can help you with, but don't obsess about whether they come true or not. We live in a fear based society, and worst-case-scenarios abundantly ensue. It can bee a self-fulfilling prophecy if we keep feeding it with our consciousness. I know, some things are inevitable...butt I don't expect it to bee as dramatic as a movie. GG is right...some folks dwell on the negative too much.

The Power of "One" is very powerful..When the Spirit carriies out one though as a "Mass"..in most case's it is like cause and effect.It Happens! so be carful as to what we predict(smile)

It's just the polar tilt and it will snap back after 2012, then the Earth heals itself like it has been doing since the beginning of it's existence.
We will have some natural disasters but not like people think.
People let their minds and media hype take over, just silly and stupid.
I honestly feel that way too many people are misinterpreting 2012. Yes the Mayan calendar ends... and yes it coincides with Aztec, Hopi, Hindu, etc etc...
Right now, media and Hollywood are shaping the view of what people think 2012 will be. An apocolyse... BUT 2012 is the end of one of the Mayan calendars... they believed that the world has "ended' many many times over...
The way I see it, if you were to compare it to something equally misrepresented, 2012 is akin to the death card in a tarot deck. The death card doesn't equal death... it is the end of one thing and the rebirth of another. A deck I'm planning on buying soon depicts the death card as a phoenix... a creature that dies in flame, and is reborn.
New life, new thought and change has to happen. Its a cycle that has happened again and again. 2012 is a phoenix year, we can see the turmoil of the flames building all around us as the old phoenix dies... change, new life, a new phoenix is on its way. The "apocolypse" we will experience, is the destruction of the old ways... and there will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth by those who do not accept the change and the new ways. But there will be those that understand, that have been waiting... and will rise from the ashes.
