On a whim...

As I was looking through some of David's papers, I found the name of a fellow who had been his very best friend in his teens and early 20s. David had often spoken of him and of their escapades.

I was able to locate this man through a personal search, and I called him. What a nice man! He was thrilled to hear from me, although he and David hadn't seen one another since 1961. JT lives in Illinois, but he has a son who teaches at the college in Ellensburg, just up the road from our place! He said that he and his wife have been to this area to visit, several times, and are planning another trip next year. Wow!

The sad part is that David probably could have seen him again, if we'd made the effort to locate him. But, I'm "pumped" about making the connection for David! I'll be sending one of David's CDs to JT, and I suspect we will be in contact in time to come.

Another "if only..."

It may be another "if only" to you but, good for you for following through with contacting him. Your "if only" is a way of remembering David with sweet, happy memories that both of you can relive and feel good about. Sometimes, these things are "meant" to come about at just the right time. I am sure JT will enjoy the CD you will send him and bring about a visit from him and his wife sooner than you think. I am also happy to know that you are "excited" about making the connection. Looking forward to hearing about the visit whenever it may come about.

Wishing you and good Thanksgiving Day.

That is one great thing to do! I get cards from one of Ann's great friends, somebody I never met but they had worked together for a number of years. It's nice to have that kind of connection with our loved ones.

Good for you Marty. I'm sure you will make a new lifelong friend. TJ will really appreciate the CD. What better way to honor your David. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving. Hugs.....Sue

Marty, you must have made JT's day. I am learning from you that sometimes when we reach out to someone else we feel better ourselves. I hope that you enjoy the feast at the place that you used to work. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of us on this board - may we all get thru the day. Joyce

About a year or so ago, during a particularly low episode following Pat's death, I thought it would be interesting to look up and even meet some of the women I was involved with in my late teens and early twenties. I thought we could talk about old times and who knows, even continue our old relationship. I did a Goggle search and checked data bases of high school and college all to no avail. Later, upon reflection, I realized what a goofy idea this was. I had neglected to consider the ravages of time which changed us both physically and mentally. Anyway it at least occupied my mind for awhile.
