Does this look like a good buy?

If you click on "more details" it tells all the features.

Is Dell a good laptop?

Is it worth $50 more for the larger one? I couldn't see the weight of eich but shouldn't REALLY be an issue for me ... just want to use it to replace my current PC, (37.2GB), used (15GB), free space (22.1GB) and S-L-O-W !!!

Without full specs I wouldn't go near them. And they are not listed. Dell will make them for someone else so you can't be sure what you will find.
I only like Toshiba and Sony.
Here is a link:

This is $200 cheaper than the Dell. Free shipping.
The specs are good. The screen size is good. if you have poor eyesight then you really want a desktop where you you can get really large monitors. Mine is 24".
I ordered a similar Toshiba for a friend and it is working fine.
If you are willing to try a refurb I'll take a look for you. My Sony laptop works fine and is a refurb.
Be aware that all Laptops of this nature has a lot of "demo" software. It will be there and if you like it you will would suddenly find that you have to pay for it or it will go away. A lot of it is not good stuff.
I uninstall that junk right away.

I just found the specs.
They try to bamboozle you.
The software list has:
Adobe Photoshop 8.
There is no such thing. What you will get is Photoshop Elements 8.
Photoshop CS4 (the current version) cost more than twice the laptop.
Its WiFi is not up to date.
It is just what I thought.

Photoshop version 8.0 was known as Photoshop CS. I believe you're right about this being Elements.

On the other hand, I have had a Dell laptop for several years and it's been very reliable. I would only buy from Dell though, where you can order it built the way you want it.

They are right.

If you want to look at something similar, but for a few hundred less, go to the Staples Black Friday Ad.

They are selling something similar but for real.

If you want a 'cheap' Dell computer go to their website and sign up for their email newsletter where they tell you when the bargains are available.

I have both Sony and Toshiba laptops. Sony is for work. Toshiba is for travel. I am very happy with both and have had no problems. I run the full office suite on the Sony as well as Open Office. I run Open Office on the other. Big database transfers between the two. Both great ibnternet, simple sert up etc.

Both Sony and Toshiba make excellent laptops, as well as desktops.

many of the black friday computers are less than stellar...in fact you have to really check laptops because of the huge number of processors they use now...and just as an example, the laptps they sell at wallyworld may not correspond to any other model the manufacturer builds ..some f them even have the wm behind the numerics of the model number..and the processors may be sempron or celeron...which were rendered outmoded years ago...

Rita,

one other thing about the software that comes with the laptops. MSoft's Office 2007 Home and Student edition (which I have) is a good buy at about $110 all by itself. (It's good for legally loading on up to 3 pc's, so it really costs as little as about $35 "per pc") I'm guessing that since they don't come out and say it, that the version you get with the laptop is a 60 or 90 day trial version, which means that they'll make you pony up another chunk of change later to get the permanent version.

As an alternative, check out the Dell "Studio" versions at their website. I have a Dell Studio 17" and it's been fine for 8 months.

If your price point is in the $700 to $900 range, you can get a very good laptop.

Ooopps....forgot this.

The 17" screen, to my aged eyes, is worth every extra nickel! I prefer the extra visual real estate.
