I thought I would start this thread today- before everyone actually has to think about it.
I am thankful for a great husband and a loving family. I am thankful for my health (any morning I wake up and there are no aches is a good one), for many good friends and for being able to spend most of the year in Florida.
I am thankful for my family and friends who have encouraged and supported me through probably the toughest year of my life. I'm constantly getting care packages with things like toilet paper, toothpaste, canned goods, you know, the luxuries of life. LOL I've been sent gift cards to my local food store and Walmart and it has literally saved my life. As tough as times are right now, I am so grateful to be so loved by so many people and most of them are right here on Eons. And I'm thankful that tomorrow I am going to have a wonderful meal and left-overs to bring home with me. Now that's cool!
I'm so very thankful that my granddaughter made it through some very serious surgery today. She also had a bad reaction to the morphine and my daughter was beside herself. I couldn't be in TX with them and I was climbing the walls with worry. The last message I got was that it looks like she will be ok, she is napping and she told my daughter to have some food waiting for her when she wakes up. Prayers really do get answered. Thank you God.

Well, she had to go back in yesterday. One leg was twice the size of the other. They did a CT scan looking for clots. They couldn't see any, but her WBC was off the charts. She's got an infection in the left leg. They changed her antibiotics. My daughter said it looks even worse today. So, I'm back to worrying and hoping for some better news this evening.
I should have mentioned she had surgery in both legs for compartment syndrome which is when the muscle expands from exertion and cuts off the blood flow. She's in a lot of sports. But it got so bad, it was happening before any exertion. The doctor said when she cut into the legs, the muscles popped right out of the incisions. She was cut from knee to ankle on both sides of both legs.
As of a few hours ago, she said the left leg feels better, but is still swollen. It's cellulitis which is an infection that is found near surgical wounds. It's caused by staph, a word that scares the hell out of me. She's taking her antibiotics and all we can do is wait. And she's still at risk for clots. She goes back to the doctor's on Monday, unless things get worse and she goes back to the ER. I'll be glad when this is over and she's back on her feet.
I got a text message at 2am from my daughter saying she hasn't been able to sit down for 5 minutes. Guess it's been a painful night and mom is exhausted. It's just after 10am here, too early to call there. Besides, after being up that late, I'm sure they're going to sleep as long as they can. Hopefully pain free.
I sure wish you lived closer to me. I'd love to be able to help you out so you could go visit your granddaughter, and know that all was well on the homefront. ((( VB )))
