Is Thanksgiving Kosher?

view link Rabbi Moshe Feinstein states:

"On the question of celebrating any event on a holiday of Gentiles, if the holiday is based on religious beliefs [by the Gentiles], such celebrations are prohibited if deliberately scheduled on that day; even without intent, it is prohibited because of marit ayin  (appearance of evil) . . . The first day of year for them [January 1] and Thanksgiving is not prohibited according to law, but pious people [balai nephesh] should be strict."

I find this article on the halacha of Thanksgiving interesting, but irrelevant.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Thanks giving was called a national Holiday by pres. lincoln as a ermemberance of those who dies and the hoe of uniting the country does not sound too religious if you ed the proclamation it does read in that tone but biblilcal language was the norm.

I do NOT think Thanksgiving is in any way a Jewish holiday.

Any more than July 4th or July 14th.

But if the question is "should Jews celebrate/acknowledge Thankgiving ?" especially on the latter part I would say YES because as a people we remember "zachor," we express thanks to a higher power for our existence, our children, etc.

I suspect Thanksgiving is NOT "in the air" in Boro Park but it is among the modern Orthodox in NYC.
