Platform bed question

I have a malamute (16 months, so a lot of puppy still) that chews things. He stays out in an outside kennel when we are not home that is covered, but has water run into it so the floor ends up wet. I would like to make a raised platform that he could lay on. However, I have no idea what to use that he can't chew/eat.

We thought of concrete board, but were afraid he could hurt himself with that. Also the hard plastic decking, but the people at the store thought he could chew that up. My son suggested a steel plate (with rounded edges) put up on some pipes to get it a couple of inches off the ground. That seemed the best, but metal conducts cold, so would be cold for him. I can't add bedding or he would have it eaten in a few hours (and I do mean eaten as well a chewed up). Wood is out, he loves that (even in the form of my end table).

He has a large Igloo dog house (and he chews the edge of the doorway), but doesn't use it a lot, he likes to lay outside. He has chew toys in there with him, and he chews on them, but that would not protect anything else that we put in.

Anyone have any ideas???

Well I have a PVC platform bed that is four corner pieces with a leg and is raised about 3 inches. Whoever made it used a perforated PVC material so it would drain any liquid. Here is a link to a company or group that either makes them of sells plans to make them, view link
Great idea but NONE of my dogs have ever used it?!?! Big Mac chewed on his igloo so I keep different chews in there with him.

Forgot to mention that coolaroos frames are metal so may be more durable than PVC.

We have one and our dog loves it so much that he prefers to sleep outside on it rather than inside on his soft bed.
For some reason he has also made it into his own private quarters, when he is given a new toy or chew he takes it out to the coolaroo.

Yes the metal frame may be more durable but I think of that movie " A Christmas Story" when the kid gets his tongue stuck on the flag pole, LOL The PVC won't stick to his tongue :^)) and being round is hard to really chew on like square wood. So both are good choices. Good Luck.

view link We have had these for many years. They last and last. Can be hosed off to clean and dry in the sun. Click on standard beds to see the model we had which is an off the floor model. These are also used in kennels as they hold up so well.

If hubby is handy with a welding machine or knows someone who is, he could make a platform out of steel, flat bar or angle iron, with low legs, bolt plywood to the metal frame. If you use angle iron, the wood would set inside the metal and he would have no edges to chew. Of course, there is always the tongue thing. LOL

I have a wood chewer too. She is now 2 1/2 and still does it. Also can't use pillow bedding, She doesn't eat it but she will completely unstuff it.

I found a coolaroo on sale at Pet Supplies Plus - I keep it inside - my whole crew loves it -
At times, there are 4 or 5 poms on it, sometimes a pom and a sheltie, or a sheltie and a collie - it is a very big bed.

Mine have chewed on the fabric a time or two, but spraying the edges with a deodorant that has aluminun hydrate (or is it cholorahydrate) stops that. My vet said that wouldn't hurt them.

Best of Luck and I hope it works for you.
I don't know how they can say chew proof. I bought a used chain link run that someone didn't need any more. It is a heaver gauge than the stuff you get anywhere else. I inquired and was told that his German Sheperd chewed through regular chain link. Sometimes those wonderful dogs of ours will always find a way :^o I guess it would be best to use the words "Chew Resistant" LOL
