Censorship…a definition…..

Censorship is defined as the removal and withholding of information from the public by a controlling group or body.Censorship is closely related to the concepts of freedom of speech and freedom of expression. When overused, it is often associated with human rights abuse, dictatorship, and repression.
The term "censorship" is often used as a pejorative term to signify a belief that a group or person controlling certain information is using this control improperly or for its own benefit, or preventing others from accessing information that should be made readily accessible (often so that conclusions drawn can be verified).



…in a discussion with a groups owner I and several others disagreed with a proposed change in terminology to be used on the site having to do with other members meeting each other. The majority of the discussions and opinions took place within a posted thread that ran to several pages. I saw nothing derogatory, improper, or in violation of the eons terms of service in this thread but despite several Agreeable PM’s to the group owner the entire thread along with several pages of opinions was deleted.
Months ago political cartoons or parodies were moved to another hidden section of the group…. That also stuck in my Craw but I could understand that in as big a group as this that there would be people who were offended…so I stood silent… Ignore your freedoms…they will go away.

I am unsure what to do about all of this...I feel badly that I need to speak out against one whom I thought of as a friend.
I feel that we are a community, and that the community sets the standards of what it is willing to tolerate, and on eons that also means following the terms of service

Sort of felt like a meeting at work where input is encouraged and then totally disregarded...

George, I agree with you, though you may not want that. There has been a rift here and it is now starting to explain itself. Many people questioned why the new zoo was formed and they were given the wrong reasons. Deletions started there and the members did not accept it. There are many ways to bury or ignore a post. Stopping one voice will ultimately bring more.

I agree with you George. I comment or reply should not be deleted unless it does not follow the rules set down by eons.This is just MHO.

You know I could care less what you want to call things in this group. If you want to call something SKIT or call it something else it doesn't matter to me. What does bother me is that someone can put a ballot box on here and decide whatever they want and not include SKIT on the ballot box. I have been through this once before on this site. I also wonder why it was decided that something different was needed and what has always been good enough should be dropped. This is not a fair vote and this ballot box is not right. It is not a fair representation of what people think in this group. I think what should have been voted on first was if there should have been a change. This is all wrong. When this happened before the ballot box was thrown out because we were all wise enough to know that it was not right, but that was back in the SlowToke days. This has nothing to do with who is leading the group but has everything to do with who is in the group. I have seen this Lord of the Flies mentality before I that is my opinion on the matter. It is just an opinion. I am not saying that I am right or wrong I am just saying that I have a right to an opinion.

I admit that I too wondered at the absence of the term SKIT as an option on the ballot. This is a sticky wicket, because some of the parties involved are friends. I'm usually up for a good fight but mostly if I'm in the ring myself. I guess the meds must be working 'cause I'm not enjoying this. I will abstain from voting, I'm getting used to abstinence. My feelings are that the term SKIT's
(Spending (the) Kids Inheritance Tour (invented by Irony many months back) was a term that a lot of us came to associate with Fun and the meeting of friends from across the country, it became a bit of the secret language of our wonderful little place, newbies would ask and have it explained to them and they felt great like they had learned the secret handshake... made them more a part of the group.
The term has become a part of the site and changing is seemed (to me) a bit silly.
I am more upset that an entire thread was removed.... that the opinions of people that posted on that thread mattered not....
