I sprinkle the natural catnip on their scratching boards; but it is somewhat messy. I then have to vacuum up the remains. I have catnip spray and they go wild when I spray it on their beds or toys.
I sprayed some on Calico's round kitty bed and she was crazy; she was rolling on her back and rolled right onto the floor. I don't have a set schedule to spray the catnip, just when I think about it.
I do use the natural catnip and Shala normally loves it. I have never used the spray, but that might be a good idea for some of her toys.
Neither of my cats have liked the catnip spray! I had sprayed a few of their toys initially, they wouldn't play with them, and would go out of their way to avoid them! I had to wash their toys...one even threw up and I think it was from that! It was really weird, not the reaction I expected. I thought it would less messy! I had one cat who would always roll in it, but not eat it. The other, would only eat it, not roll in it!! I guess to each their own!
My cats love catnip, fresh and dried. I tried to grow it at one time, but didn't have much success. Now I use the dried catnip and put it on their toys and the scratch pads. Mine roll in it, jump on it and do all kinds of funny things. Sooshi eats the catnip, but she is the only one who does. But it is true, it's messy and I have to vacuum it up, but after a day of playing in it, they are no longer interested in it anyway! LOL
That's an interesting idea, I never thought to grow catnip. Hmm! Yes, it is messy, but worth it, at least that's what they tell me...now if only I could get them to vacuum! There's this thing called a 'Boogie Mat' it's about 12x14 and bright print/cotton, tassle's on the 4 corners and when you unzip it, it has like a thin layer of batting, like used in quilting. and I put some dried cat nip in there and zip it back up. They go crazy, without the mess....I never know where I'll find that mat when I wake up!
