Trosky Castle ruin at sunset

I finally got the chance to do a little traveling. The school was closed Mon. & Tues. so that they could install new windows, so I rented a car and hit the road. I went to Olomouc, CZ Sat. & Sun., then to Jelenia Gora, Poland yesterday. On the way home last night I caught the sunset and the Trosky Castle ruin in the distance. Trosky Castle is the biggest and most recognizable landmark in the Cesky raj (Czech Paradise) region. It looks pretty small in this photo, but it's actually huge and quite a hike to get up to it.

Gorgeous picture!!

The Czech Republic is one of my favorite places -- I'm hoping to be able to return there sometime in the not-too-distant future. Spent the better part of 2 weeks there on a concert tour in the mid-1990s (Brno, Ceské Budéjovice, Hradec Králové, Prague). Got to sing at the Mahen Theatre (Brno) and Dvorak Hall at the Rudolfinum in Prague. Spectacular scenery, lovely people, good food! The lemon ice cream they serve near the Katerinska Cave just outside Brno is to die for! (and when I was there, it was literally pennies for a small scoop)

bluesky,

Do you speak their language?

Efolk - sadly, no. I only know how to say about 10 words in Czech, and I can only understand about 10 words when I listen to people speak. I can read and understand a lot more Czech though (need it to survive!).

LanaM - I agree with you on the scenery and people, but not the food! The good thing is that I always lose weight when I live here, though! :) Next time I'm in Brno I'll have to see if I can find the ice cream place - I LOVE anything lemon!

Thanks to everyone for your comments on the photo! I can post some more but don't want people in the group getting upset with me for posting too many non-Washington pictures... if you want to see my photos from the Czech Republic, they are in an album on my profile page.

Hope all of you had a GREAT Thanksgiving! I had to work all day, but came home and called all my kids (using Skype for only .17 cents per minute) and talked to two of my sisters (using Yahoo Messenger, so the calls were free), and I was very thankful for that!
