I took down my profile on MySpace, Facebook and Twitter. It was even a more senseless waste of time than computer games.
I only use Facebook..I keep in touch with family and have found some we lost contact with 20 years ago..It's a matter of whats important to you..Twitter is just dumb..don't get it...Never use MYSpace any more too much crap...
I got suckered in to Facebook, but rarely post anything on the thing. I hate their layout; it's a navigational nightmare.

I don't understand them either and my daughter is the one using this Facebook but I heard some bad things about it too. You can get spammed or something like that. I like the WeB myself. As it is tyhat's all I can handle than waste my time in those others. I know that CNN keeps referring to Tweeter but I went once and it was so complicated for me I shut the thing down!!LOL
Facebook is useful when family are spread out all over the world. I follow my nieces' activities. They are often too busy to email and so it's a great way to check in with them and see their photos. My son and his fiance also live abroad.
I love Facebook! I love keeping up with my real time friends from when I taught, my cousins, and my ex-students along with family and friends. I also love some of the virtual games, especially Farmville and Yoville. I find these take care of my needs for spending money. Virtual money is free!
Facebook is great!!
Any use of the internet has potential for getting spammed, getting a virus etc. We all need to use common sense. For these reasons, I am cautious about checking out suggested videoss anywhere including Facebook, just as I know how to avoid phishing scams, Nigeria beneficiary requests, and opening unknown attachments.
I have moved frequently during my adult life, never staying more than 7 years in any one place. I have a few dear friends in each location and currently live far from relatives as well. Beause of Facebook I am able to keep up on the little day to day events in people's lives as well as know immediately major news (surgery results etc.).
Another delightful part of Facebook is seeing posted pics. It is so neat to see the pics of my friend's grandchildren, the children of young peole I knew when they were 10, and to find out how someone looks literally 35 years later. I grew up in a stable community and attended school from kindergarten on with many of the same people. I am back in contact with some of them, I care deeply about all of these people and it wonderful to have these contacts.
I am quite able to easily skiing the page, read only the things I care about and skip the rest.
I Love it!! On the other hand I did not care for Twitter at all.
I tried Facebook for about a week and then left. I don't get it either, Sid. I think such a phenomenon lends itself to the commentary made by Thoreau, "Most men (people) lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them."
I think what we're seeing here is a kind nihilistic existential emptiness that most people feel and as a consequence they feel this desperate need to fill the emptiness with endless, nonsensical babbling.
