Why do Americans love Palin?

I am posting this writing by Ruth Rosen because it is from a publication not often referenced on this web site and an author I have never seen referenced here. Rosen is a historian, journalist and senior fellow at the Longview Institute, teaches history and public policy at the University of California, Berkeley. She is the author of The World Split Open: How the Modern Women's Movement Changed America. The article was presented on Open Democracy and can be read here:

I can see where Dr. Rosen is coming from, Sarah is comforting to the right-wing male, after all, she is just a housewife. Her lack of knowledge is comforting to the male species instead relying on her man. That she, as governor and on the campaign trail had Todd cc:'ed on all email - including some that he shouldn't have been privy to.

I shutter to think that this woman has a future in politics.

Well I for one do not love SP ; I think she is basically an air head . She whines that she was mean to by nearly everyone . How can someone this much a prima donna be in charge of anything ? I guess just the weak minded and those who think it's cute to be folksy and lacking knowledge adore her . The talking heads seem to influence these people greatly ; because they have small minds or lack of understanding . My rule of thumb is whatever Rush or Hannity or The Beckerhead say I tend to think they are lying again and they love her so it just has to be wrong . They are leading the mindless mutitude to adore the caribou barbie . I mean what has she done ? Quit as governor of some ice cube state ; had a voodoo priest ; don't know what she reads or what she believes ; has very little knowledge of the constitution . ahhhhhhhhh but lets not forget the precious baby . sure let this mess of a person be anything in Government . I think Obama should give her a mop and tell her start cleaning . Seems to be more of what she was cut out for .

That was a great writing. It does explain a lot. I, too, shudder to think of her in public office. Just picture her in some of the current ongoing negotiations and confrontations (wink, wink). Her lack of knowledge is astounding.

why do people like palin ?? because a lot of people are stupid .. and proud of it .. this country ( not me now mind you.. not me ) elected gw bush...and we did it twice .. now that takes a bunch of stupidity .. and we seem to have that in droves here .. i mean i could see if we elected him once cause a lot of people really thought they were votin for his dad.. but to give him another go round ?? that was just plain dumb dumb dumb ..

And voting for Obama is what? If it turns out that he is a bust...are the people that voted for him going to be considered stupid also?

well obama still gets a pass for now .. in 3 years we just might be sick up and fed with him too .. but he didn't lead us into war ... yet ... or invade a foriegn country because he thought they had wmd's .. or try to lump anybody in with 9/11 that weren't .. i did my homework on bush the first time and didn't vote for him .. how he got florida is still beyond me .. other than the fact that his brother was the governor and his dad used to head the cia i see no foul play at all . except for them confusin butterfly ballots in palm beach county which was what the whole election came down to .. and then judge sirrica on the supreme court votin against the recount who was of course a golfin buddy of cheney's .. other than that and all the troopers and sherrifs and deputies turnin people away from the polls in the democratic areas .. nahh no foul play at all ..
so obama could turn out to be a bust too .. but as gw said .. fool me once shame on .. fool me once shame .. we won't get fooled again.. yeah thats what it was he said ..

If he is a bust the credit really belongs to the Republican Party.

LLL....Obama has the House and Senate...he should be able to control the Congress wouldn't you say?

Right now, as I see it, Obama is his own worst enemy.

He can turn it around by being more decisive, dedicated to carry out his campaign promises, and transparent and honest.

We'll see, he is here for 3 more years and for the sake of the country I hope he succeeds.

I'm betting on a second term for Obama which he will absolutely need to make a dent in the mess we're in right now. I'm not going to blame the whole think on Bush, no matter how seductive the notion is, but Bush certainly didn't help things.

What I find appalling about the right's love affair with Palin is that she is so obviously NOT smart and they just eat that crap up like it's ice cream for dinner and they're all 8 years old. I personally want someone in the Presidency who is way the hell smarter than I am and believe me when I say, Palin isn't smarter than ANYBODY.

No matter who is in the White House we're in for a shit storm over the next few years and that's just to break even. You would think these teabagging, birth certificate hunters would try to do everything they could to make things better but at least the money they're spending on Palin's book will go back into the eononomy.

See merli, I think I made this point earlier and you confirmed it.

She is not smart, will never wind up in the White House, unless as a tourist, and has no authority to determine federal policy.

So, what is the reason those on the left continue to make an issue out of her.

To me, she is a non-issue.
