How do you cope with message groups ?

Talking with people online via groups and forums etc has it's own set of difficulties in that we can't see facial expressions or read body language. So I wondered how everyone coped with talking online and what kind of things you find particularly difficult about talking with people you can't see ?

Have you ever had an experience that affected you online as a result of being a HSP ?

Hi Owly1,
Happy Thanksgiving!

Talking with people online does present difficulties, I agree. Emoticons help. But talking online is two dimensional, that's for sure. Skype, iChat, and such is a much better means of communication online.

Nothing, of course, is the same as personal interaction. But at least online talking is communication of some sort, and much better than nothing at all, or being overwhelmed by an individual or group in person. Online has its place.

As an HSP, I like the experience. It's a safe, non-invasive way to interact, as long as one doesn't go to strange places. Since HSPs tend to check first and act second, I wonder if we, as a whole, aren't being safer online than non-HSPs.

But it begs the question - Have you, yourself, ever had an experience that affected you online as a result of being an HSP?

Hi Shari and Happy Thanksgiving to you too.
I actually think I prefer talking over a comouter than in real life but I get more from watching people interact in real life. You're right about the emoticons helping.

I like the way I can go off and do other things or just rest before replying to someone or afterwards.

I think I'm constantly being affected online as a result of being a HSP. I have been able to pick up on someone's emotional state just from reading their message. I can tell when someone is angry even though they are trying to control themselves and I've avoided completely anyone who I detect is full of negativity. Sometimes that takes a bit of detecting but I think there is a difference between being depressed and being difficult.

I have been affected by fallings out elsewhere but I bounce back. I just need to rest a while and try to learn from it. It has helped me recognise certain types of people even from the way they write.

Thanks for replying.

I think that HSPs do well at reading between the lines. This can save us from blundering into a quagmire! It also, can allow us to see a Good Fortune that others might miss. I recently found a Woman who may be the one I have looked for for over 60 years! Far Fetched? To most it would be! Not to a HSP! There are times when we "Just Know!!!". Art
