Fond memories of my father having a fit about how long the Beatle's hair was when they first appeared on the show. Then there was the puppet Topo Gigio.

Oh, I remember this! And I feel really old...LOL Feb/1964 I think. And my friends and I all thought Paul was the cute one! I recall waiting for them on Wicconsin Avenue in Milwaukee, outside the Coachman Hotel (which is now a MU dorm). They did wave from the windows. :)

Yes, Feb/1964--the Beatles on Ed Sullivan--it's kind of like the day President Kennedy was shot--I remember where I was too. I was a sophomore in colloge at UW-LaCrosse--in the Student Union building watching them perform.

I was nine, but was forever changed -- still am a big Beatles fan (that's Bee-ATT-les).

Ed Sullivan's show was on our TV as I was growing up - big hit.

This and many other great firsts (w/Old Ed) during the 60's will be on this program!! I wish you "out of staters" could get this! Shall we tape it for you? Is there a way you can get it on cable or dish? (PBS?)

I LOVED TOPO GIGO! My parents used to tell me when he was on - and we all would say "Eddee...kees me goodnight"....lol Wasn't there also a 'hand' puppet named Senor Wenslas (sp?) or something? And how about those nerve wracking plate spinners? LOL I can still hear the music they played to that - which we always sang when we were doing anything that required great skill!

Mr. Morrison, use a different word than "higher". That or you'll never be on another Ed Sullivan show.

Minutes later Jim Morrison belted out; "girl we couldn't get much higher"!

I saw J Morrison on the commercial for the show! Didn't realize he was warned beforehand...

What a loss of talent we had when Morrison died. I remember around 1990, I read in the newspaper about a national poll that was done to name the greatest rock and roll song ever. Sure enough, it was "Light My Fire". That, I had to agree with!

I am guessing that PBS will offer the DVD later. Also, check your local library, they frequently have the PBS specials there.
