Microsoft Declares War on Google

Well, they already have given OS Chrome. But now they're playing dirty like the ongoing war between Apple and MS.

This is just a clip I picked up. In simple terms, MS is trying to make deals with major media groups to block all content from Google Search. This is no joke. Guess MS is aiming to make "Bing the King". view link

"News Corp. and Microsoft are reportedly in "early stage talks" to cut an exclusive deal that would prevent Google from indexing the media conglomerate's news Websites some of which include The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post and others. The deal will allegedly give Microsoft's Bing search engine the exclusive rights to deliver search results and news pages with New Corp. content, according to The Financial Times . The report also says that Microsoft has approached other unnamed major Web publishers to cut similar deals."

Guess we might need to change our default search engine to Dogpile, which consolidates search results from Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask.

Personally, I find this practice totally reprehensible in spades.
Who wins: Who knows?
Who suffers: Us

Interesting, huh?

I guess that, legally, if Rupert Murdoch charges a "viewing fee" to get to his newspapers online, then he has the right to filter out whatever he wants. Whether or not that's wise, moral, or good business sense is another thing.

There's a lot of "mights" and "coulds" in here, so let's hope that it doesn't come to pass.

Dogpile as a search engine ain't that bad an idea, anyway!

Thanks Sid.

This is just MS business as usual. It's how they got to the top of the heap. I'm not real comfortable with Google either for that matter, but that's another thread in itself.

Sounds just like the war between IE and Netscape, and then IE and Firefox and MS's lawsuits about the propriety of IE.

I'm wondering how loudly MS would complain if Google blocked all Bing searches from YouTube?

If Google could pull off such a deal with YouTube, you can bet the farm they would. Google is a viper as mshadow eluded to. It is VERY clear that Google wants to bury MS and vice versa. Let's not forget the war over Yahoo.

Dogpile to the rescue.

I agree with, Jason. This is just the same old MicroS***. They had better be careful though. When they pulled this on Netscape they were almost sliced up into little pieces because they were found in violation of anti-trust laws.

Dogpile is good. Just for the record, Dogpile is a meta-engine. Sorry, Sid. I can't help myself. I'm very obsessive/compulsive about details. LOL ;-)

Hey Typelasupernova, your screen image fascinated me. I had to blow it up to its original state to fully appreciate the awesome photo. Can you tell us what it is?

Sure can, Sid. That is a semi-detached binary system consisting of a white dwarf primary and a red giant secondary. It is believed that when the white dwarf accretes enough material to where it's mass reaches the Chandrasekhar limit of 1.44 solar masses, an out-of-control thermo-nuclear chain reaction occurs and the white dwarf blows itself completely apart in the form of a Type Ia supernova, hence the user name. hehe

Got it now.....NOT;)

I DID LEARN a new term: Chandrasekhar

On to Google and Bing..LOL
