If the love is real, you hang in there for as long as it takes.
I can understand the fears. My daughter tried online dating. She would do as you say, emails, texts and phone calls. Then when they'd meet at a coffee shop for the fist time, she was soooo disappointed. Not only were the pics they posted of themselves years old, but they were nothing like she imagined. That could be why one or both parties hesitate to actually go through with an in person meeting. I guess sometimes the fantasy is better than the reality. She doesn't do online dating sites anymore. I don't think you can fall in love on the internet or over the phone. You can develop an attraction and really want to take it to the next step, but I don't think love can happen when you've never even met. Not if it's real. So if you are hesitating to meet in person, I say listen to your feelings.

Sure you can, for about $3.99 a minute. 976-BABE. Must be 18 to fall in love, though, cause they always ask if you at least 18, or so I've been told.

Ah! One can fall in love in any situation if one is willing. When the heart is closed out of fear or baggage, it will never happen. A good reason to close off the heart is prior obligation, if one can.
