Fools names and fools faces.....

...always seen in public places....as Granny used to say. Today was even more proof of Granny's wisdom.

A woman was fired from her teaching job because her Facebook page was discovered and shared by students at the school where she taught. She posted photos of herself in various states of inebriation, and various states of undress. She still can't seem to figure out why she got canned.

In another case, a former IBM employee was able to win a disability case because of her debilitating depression. She posted photos of herself, again on Facebook, at parties, one in particular where she was dancing with the Chip and Dale male exotic dancers. In another post she talked about a mountain-climbing excursion she had participated in. The photos were posted after she won her claim, and according to IBM's insurance investigator, she neither looked nor acted clinically depressed; they stopped her her disability payments and are investigating.

Apparently, people just think that publicizing your exploits will reach only your friends, and not reach anybody who could hurt you. So many people blame technology on our loss of privacy and some of the blame does belong there, but stupidity has its place as well.

What is scary as hell is the IBM's employees Facebook page is a private page. How did they get in? Or did someone rat her out?

i think no matter what you do, saying something to a friend or showing them a picture or doing the same thing on the net, it can come back to bite you in the butt.

Even taking the pictures is probably not a great idea, but for a teacher to post semi-nude photos of herself on the Internet? Duh.

Do I feel bad for those idiots, heck no......just shows how stupid some people really are and so full of themselves........
About the IBM employee, she's depressed, well, aren't we all at times so hers is more severe.......I know of some cases where some employees of other companies got let go could not collect disability and guess what they had CANCER! So, GOOD I am glad these FOOLS got caught....then they say they are so sorry, yeah they are sorry alright cause they got caught!

I agree...stupid is...as stupid does...
Hometowngirl...I guess the person that got let go...and had cancer...didn't have short, or long-term disability to collect? If not...that is a very sad situation. If they were able to go to work and do their job...as usual...then they shouldn't be let go because of that. Isn't there a law against that?

I just heard about a guy that flipped off a cop. The cop wrote him a ticket and fined him. The guy sued...and won.....$50,000. !!!!! (He sued on the grounds that he had "Freedom of Speech".) That's almost as good as the woman that sued McDonald's over the hot coffee that she spilled on herself in her car.

I agree hometowngirl; everybody is so sorry after they do something stupid and then get caught. I don't know why it still amazes me how intelligent people can be so stupid. It frustrates me when we pay out billions to people who abuse the system and then the people who actually deserve compensation can't get it.

I have always put teachers on a slightly higher plain, but lately some of the stupidest stunts have come from teachers. I guess they think they are a little bit better than the rest of us, and noone is going to catch them out when they do stupid things. I am one of the most inept people walking when it comes to computers; but after 10+ years of being warned, I don't feel sorry for people who send stupid stuff out into cyberspace and then decide that since it was inappropriate, nobody was going to see it anyway.

The lady that was burnt with a cup of coffee sounds ridiculous until one examines the case a little further. The injuries this lady suffered were horrific. 2nd and 3rd degree burns over her genitals. This is not just a little redness associated with 1st degree burns! This is blistering and actually burning down into the flesh leaving massive scars.

McDonalds management had been complained to several times by various customers their coffee was too hot. Complaints were ignored.

During the trial McDonalds got the best attorneys money could buy. They waltzed into the courtroom confident they could make these country bumpkins squirm in their own stupidity. They were wrong. The jury awarded this lady not just her medical bills but punitive damages to make sure McDonalds became more responsible corporate citizens. The coffees' temperature was lowered.

So to everything we hear, it's usually only half the story. There's usually 2 at least and sometimes 10 sides to a story. I don't like facebook because I don't wish to live in a fishbowl nor do I care to play games but for those who do let them beware.

Thanks for the details on the oft snickered at McDonald's case. So many think the jury awarded that for nothing, as if jurors are fools, too.

I'm with you on the Facebook phenomenom. I can't see why people feel a need to post every detail of their lives on the internet with this and similar sites. Once can keep up with and send pics to their their familes and friends by email just as well Twitter for twits, I guess.

Many people are careless with their security settings on social networking sites or they just don't know any better. And no matter how you have your privacy settings, once you post something on a website, all it takes is one person to leak the info/pictures elsewhere. Some people are also stupid enough to friend co-workers and bosses and then wonder why they get in trouble at work for objectionable postings.
