Yep !! my Horse "Sand Man" in the late 70's :o) and when I was a Kid at my Aunt May's Farm outside Hinton Oklahoma and the local Riding Stables in North Long Beach, CA =:o)
Have always loved horses........started riding when I was about 8 or 9. A doctor had two horses stabled in a nearby town and wanted someone to ride with him. The farm where the horses were stabled and my parents were friends......so I was a willing volunteer. Had to ride by bike the 15 miles to get to the stable, but then I would get to ride for half a day with instruction. I was taught to ride English and neck reign. We would take the horses swimming in the lake and I loved every weekend that the doctor came..
Then when I was about 14 I would rent a horse from a local stable and ride in the woods near my home........I always took the same horse and we got to be good friends. Our weekly jaunts were mostly in the woods but ocassionally I would take him out on the streets and attend a football game on horseback (other kids drove cars).
I still like to ride whenever the opportunity arrises......along the way I have been riding in Wyoming. Texas, New Mexico, and several other states.
It is a very special feeling to ride a horse, to be like one with an animal.

I also used to train with Horses when I was younger , I learnt different styles , side saddle , racing saddle and english GP saddle and also dressage saddle . I have experienced some lovely horses and some crazy horses along the way . I do not like race horses however as they are fed high energy food and this can make them crazy and dangerous . I used to love riding two horses however , one was named Winston and the other was named punch , these were Hunting and competing horses , both of these horse had beautiful personnalities , and would love to put their heads on my shoulder and would fall asleep , only problem was their heads would get heavier and heavier lol . My boss seing I had a gift with horses on her yard , when ever she got a new one that wouldnt behave and she was afraid to ride it , would pass them on to me , having very little experience at the time I felt that this was a big responsibility being put on me , but I never gave up on the horse in hand , just the owner lol . I miss my days with horses and hope in the future my path will cross with them again and I can connect to their graceful nature and free spirit .
Iwanted to ride a horse so bad when I was 15 that I went into the fields next to our property and befriended the horses there. I finally got one to let me get on her back and ride around (more than once). Later I found out the horse I was riding was a horse that was dumped onto the property and was and was adopted by the local sheriff posse group. But it was fun.
In my early teens I rode horses for rounding up free range cattle prior to Winter. Yep,we had round up in Michigan. Cattle is cattle, wherever they are.
I also had a brief stint at Sulky Racing. I got too big for that and my career was short. That is dangerous racing also.

Not just rode but have gentled Horses the old way takeing them to stand in a pond or lake and they can not buck when it is done this way, sorry I cant do this any longer as I lost most of my foot last year but still will go with my friend Bob who has a horse right outside of town to help with the training,
Wow! You guys sound like you had a lot of fun. My only experiences with horses were as a child, with ponies; and they were always bad experiences. One would rub me and my brother up beside a barb-wired fence. The next one would buck us off. And the third (and last) was tied up to a swingset and bumped his head on the slide when something startled him, making him take off down the road, swingset trailing behind him. So I figured three times was NOT a charm, in my case, and wanted a Mustang car from then on, which I haven't gotten yet (hint, hint, Santa). I'd love to have had the experiences you guys describe. Maybe one of these days I'll get another chance, before I get too old...I hope.
I rode horses when I was young too as my dad's best friend as a jockey and had his own saddlery. I always rode gratis. Wanted a horse, but we could never afford one.
