I'm Ticked

My doctor's office has told me that I have to have a doctor visit every time I need pain medication. Has anyone else had a problem with this? Instead of just phoning in the prescription I have to actually make an appointment and pay the co pay and the insurance company will have to pay as well. I'm calling the TV stations and alerting the insurance companies about this. I'm so upset.

The same thing happened to me with a pain care doctor. After I went to see him he gave me a prescription and a diagnosis. The prescription worked but the pain never went away so the doctor had me go see an orthpedist who said the paid doc misdiagnosed my problem but said I should exercise and continue using the meds I was taking.when I needed a new presctipion I called the pain doctor and was told he wouldn't give me a new RX unless I came in to see him. Even after I told the receiptionist what had happened I still couldn't get a script. So I told her to please tell the doctor to take his prescription pad, roll it up like a cigar and stick it where the sun don't shine. Then I called the orthopedist and got an RX for the same meds.

Being a doctor is just another money making job.

Does he examine you or perform a test while you are there? You're not saying that he just makes you pay for a visit and all you get is your perscription?

If it has a narcotic in it that might be way...for my bipolar meds I have to see my doctor every three months for refills and I am not sure why..actually, my doctor told me there are laws governing this...I don't know for sure.

On the surface, it sounds like the doctor is being responsible. If, in fact, he's doing an assessment prior to writing a new Rx. There is a real danger for addiction to pain medications. There is also the real danger of diversion of pain medications.

The laws in Florida changed just recently regarding pain meds...too many people were doctor shopping, so now you have to see your physician for a scrip, and you had better not see another one for the same medication, it's all in a data base that the FDLE (Florida Dept of Law Enforcement) keeps tabs on as well as the Dept of Professional Regulation.

Hi there,
In Massachusetts, if it's a narcotic, and I believe all pain medications are narcotics, then you have to get the prescription by hand, not by mail, which means you have to see the doctor, which takes up his time, etc.

Since there are so many people who abuse pain meds, the feds have taken stuff like this out of the hands of the doctors. They don't trust them to decide who is or is not wrongly seeking pain meds. Every narcotic prescription is documented and tracked and if a doctor is believed to be writing too many scripts for pain meds, they can get into all kinds of hot water. Lots of paper work is kept for these meds because of our puritanical society's belief that people can't possibly be allowed to decide for themselves how much pain medication they need.

Bullshoot, they are doing the same to me and they know why I really need it and that I have never increased the dosage and that I don`t take one everyday, only when I need it. I have been told that I have to go to pain management in order to get the meds. They own that pain mgmt. division, also. I have to go to the Dr for tests every 6 months because I am Diabetic. They look down my throat, take my blood pressure and listen to my heartbeat. They charge me $75 for this plus the costs of tests. Around &200 a pop. I can`t afford this let alone pain management. I can`t afford ins. even if I could get it. Which I can`t because of preexisting conditions for all of my illnesses! Tell me again why we don`t need health care reform?

I worked for a neurologist for several years and it was office policy that pain meds weren't renewed without an office visit. There are a lot of pain docs out there who just write scripts for every T, D & H who comes into the office. It's normal to feel that if a doctor wants to see you before refilling a script that he is somehow trying to rip you off, but pain medication is addictive and patients need to be monitored while they are taking them.

all my pain scripts are for controlled substances, i have to get the script from my doc, then hand deliver
to the pharmacy that takes my drivers license info and such. the script is only good for 72 hours.

i see nothing wrong with it. will most likely be on these meds most of my life. massive nerve damage.
