I TRY TO REMEMBER THE REASON FOR CHRISTMAS...GOD GAVE US JESUS....HIS SON JESUS WAS HIS GIFT TO US...SO WE WOULD HAVE A WAY TO COME TO HIM....WITHOUT OUR SAVIOR...WE WOULD ALL BE DOOMED...SO JESUS IS THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL...PRAISE GOD...GOD BLESS YOU

Christmas to me has many meaning, it can be for love or for giving, or just praying, or you can do it all in one, just pray about it and decide.

There is so much depression is true. Holidays are the worst times of the year for so many people and for so many different reasons. I think it is important to reach out to those who may be spending the holiday alone. Christmas is about Christ and we should reach out to anyone we can to help them through the holidays.

The holidays can mean different things to different people - for a lot of people, Christmas means family, and not everyone has that, so depression results. Although many seek strength in their faith, they can also benefit from seeking that comfort and support from their community/friends/extended family. Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts!

The holidays used to be a very difficult time for me (even as a believer) years ago. I wasn't alone. I went to all the family functions and went through all the motions but it was very painful - for a long time. I doubt most people even noticed. Those who did didn't really try to understand. Having recovered now, I try to be sensitive to others.

Christmas has been hard for me also as I lost my Dad on the 21st and funeral on the 24th. I had years that I put on a brave front for the kids and then one year, we drove through the cemetery one evening when the city has a candlelight service there...I cried the whole time. That was the start of healing for me.

Last Christmas, my husband had lost his Mom in Oct. so I bought him a gold ornament that told him she was spending Christmas with Jesus.

It's very hard time for a lot of people and we need to put our arms around them and let them know we feel their pain.

Thank you for sharing! Support that comes from friends during this time can mean so much to people, we often take small acts of kindness for granted - it is always helpful to be aware of the power of subtle gestures towards the elderly....which could mean giving them attention, calling them or sending them a Christmas card, stopping by and doing a chore for them without being asked. Although people sometimes don't say "thank you", etc., it doesn't mean that it is making an important impact on their lives - especially those who no longer have loved ones to spend the holidays with....

Again, all responses are greatly appreciated!

Christmas is hard on a lot of people. I lost my grandmother one Christmas, my mother the next one and my aunt the one after that. That was my entire family unit wiped out. A lot of people suffer during the holidays bcause they miss their family members or they have a family member who has an addiction. (I had an alcoholic step-father.) There are family members that make the holidays miserable for everyone and family members who don't get along. Any little thing we can do to make this time better for someone suffering through these things helps. We need to share with them the same love God has for us.
