Stealin' !!

It's been a busy last two weeks at work getting ready for our annual inventory that we did on Saturday. It was a nice day (for November) and it was tough to be at work again while a nice weather day went by. Yup folks, we count every board, 2x, nut, bolt, and washer in the place!

Woke up on Sunday to a beautiful sunrise and found it was going to be another nice day.

So, after it warmed up a bit I got out for a ride to burn off some of the work cobwebs! Headed out to the north end of the valley until I got up to the switchbacks that go down to Glen Haven. I could not talk myself into droping down.

Turned around for the trip back to the south and home and you always get rewarded with the view coming back on Devil's Gultch Road!

And!

With the weather break of the last few days a day of riding is stealing a day from winter!

Normally the winter is for doing some maintnance on your bike. This is a work stand that I got the basic idea from a site on the net and then built using materials that we had laying around at the lumberyard and probably cost me less than $15. It works pretty well for me.

Here's how it looks with a bike. This is an old ridged mtn bike that I found at a garage sale and I am in the process (slow!) of stripping down and cleaning rust off parts and will eventually get put back together. I took this on because it is an extra large frame,(hard to find!) which makes it worth it for the tall guys like me!

Hope everybody has a GREAT week!
Ride safe and warm!

Gorgeous photos of your beautiful mounjtain scenery as usual Jim. I like the Trek rigid frameed mountain bike you have there. Some people have all the luck finding the "right stuff" at yard sales. Usually when I get there, even first thing in the morning it's "Oh, yes I did have one of those, but someone came by before the sale and I sold it yesterday", nice find on your part however.

Really Jim, your photographs of the Colorado sunrise are extraordinary! I can well imagine what it must feel like to ride into that beautiful scenery. It would seem almost overwhelming and yet one would not want to miss a single sunrise! Thanks for sharing! It's a virtual pleasure to ride along with you on your excursions through the mountains.

BTW I saw the same article about constructing your own work stand using plumbing parts. The one that you built looks studier than the ones that I saw posted online. I thought that the ideas for making stands were very clever. Great find on the second hand bike. Is it made from steel? That chain looks pretty rusted.... Looks like you are going to have a lot of fun restoring the bike.

Yes TL it is a steel frame, I think the vintage is early 80's after talking to the guy who was having the sale. That chain....I think that if I give it a little pop with a hammer it might just turn into dust. The frame is in surprising good shape considering the rust that I am finding around the components, just a little on the chain stay. I had the back brake levers apart yesterday and a bit of elbow grease with some emory paper and a dab of new grease and it goes back together pretty well. The work goes slow for me because I am not a real bike mechanic, but I enjoy it and it is better than sitting in the house and watching the wind blow!!
Riki, it was actually a little sad, the guy who was having the sale was tall like me and told me he used to ride alot but was now a self-described couch potatoe and weighed in excess of 300 lbs. I think that after I get the bike rebuilt I will offer to sell it back to him if he would promise to go out on rides with me

Jim, when I bought my KHS mountain bike....(my first)... I had to take the chain apart, and soak it for a week in a solution of Marvel Mystery Oil and diesel fuel, every day or so I would pick it up and move all the links back and forth a bit. After that, a thorough wire brushing finished it up and it turned out to be a pretty good chain. I kept it on the bike for two years until I sold the bike....with the original chain still on it.
