Bayeau Tapestry..............
Was just talking about tapestry.....well had to think about The Bayeaux Tapestry.
What an undertaking that had to have been. The needlework is incredible and to think of its age.
Apparently the needlework was done in England and commisioned for or by Bishop Odo. There is some controversy over who actually did commision it. Was it Mathilda the wife of William the conqueror or was it Odo?
In any case its a beautiful peice of work commemorating the Battle of Hastings, the death of Harold and the victory of William who would change the country forever.
Look at the detail.

The whole work tells a story

In some ways it makes me think of Native American work, where they depict their battles and stories in a primative way on skins.
Can anyone think of any other tapestries or simular works that have lasted so long?
