Some’ums Fishy About This!

See larger image at: view link

Here is a photo I made of myself some years ago using a tripod and timer on my camera. I’m standing in my driveway holding a couple of salmon I caught that morning over on a wild river of the Olympic Peninsula. The Hoh, it was.

I wanted to show off to you my salmon fishing skills (luck). Anyway, I didn’t like the driveway background. It just didn’t set the right mood for the picture message I wanted to convey.

So, I used another photo of a nearby creek a short walk from where I live, and using Paint Shop Pro, layered my fishy photo on top of that. Then I resized myself to try to fit the creek scene.

Then I created a mask of the fishy layer, choosing to show all of the mask. Next, I painted out the driveway part with the color black. The underlying layer of the creek showed where I painted the driveway away.

If for some reason you encounter a background you don’t care for, you can use the layer / mask method to paint in a new one.

I should have known that someone was going to flush out the driveway photo!

These little things are hardly keepers. Right Taffy’?

So, what do you prefer; the driveway or the creek?

Digital photography can be so fun!

Wow--those salmon are huge!! I took your first picture as the original until I read your explanation. Yes, now I believe you can do a lot with using layer/mask etc. Thanks for sharing.

I'm glad you explained the backdrop Paddfy - because at first glance I was puzzled there was insufficient current in the fairly calm creek to handle that size of salmon!

Having told us about "the wild river of the Olympic Peninsula" explains it.

I liked Taffy's remark about throwing that size back in. It made me chuckle on a cold, very wet, miserable Monday morning.

PS - Off topic but It has just occurred to me that we have a Paddy for the Irish, Taffy from Wales, and a Scotbrit on this group. No jokes please!
