New Recipes

With Thanksgiving upon us and all the cable shows have their special recipes that they share with us do any of you have a recipe you are going to try this year that you have never done before?

I will be trying to make fresh Cranberry Sauce. I got my recipe off of the food network channel. It is simple enough. It is made from fresh cranberries, orange juice and sugar. There are variations on it that includes apples and cinnamon. Maybe next year or during Christmas.

No I will stick to the tried and true. I do not cook often so I try to do it well and make sure everyone enjoys it.

I used to take the washed cranberries, a cut up washed orange (including the peel) and run it through the food processor, then add a bit of sugar. Very refreshing.
I did find a "new" sweet potato recipe that I practiced once when I had guests....very rich, but easy. Might take to a gathering if I go sometime to one.
Not cooking for Thanksgiving at all. No one here, but me...and I'm going to work for 3 to 11 PM. Being a vegetarian, even if they serve a meal at the hospital, they don't plan for those rare few of us that are vegetarians....so will take an appropriate lunch and hope it isn't so busy that I don't get to eat...which happens a lot on evening shift in the emergency department. But I'm thankful my family is healthy, everyone has a job of some kind, and we live in a free country...sort of. I've seen enough of Haiti now to know that the poorest of us are rich.

My family usually look for my traditional menu, but I did find a recipe for a sweet potato casserole that sounded good and easy. I think I'll try that instead of the candied sweet potatoes I usually make. I noticed the grands and my son aren't eating those the last few times, and I have to watch my sugar so this may fit better.

fella, funny you should bring this up... just yesterday i was tramping around pilgrim lake on cape cod looking for wild cranberries. i thought it would be fun to pick some and make cranberry sauce for thanksgiving. well, long story short, i did not have my boots with me, and you know how wet those cranberry bogs are! maybe next year....and i'll be more prepared.

I'm making "pumpkin pie gems" instead of just one pumpkin pie, and I've only made them once or twice before. I love new recipes and try them on a fairly regular basis, but not this Thanksgiving.

Not for the holidays, but here's tonight's simmering specialty at my house. Boneless pork chops, served until they're fork tender, served over rice, with steamed broccoli. And yes, I'll be freezing four...I wish SOMEONE of you lived close enough that I could cook for you!

Lucinda, that's funny. I like doing things like that. HB can I come for dinner. Yum. I love cooking, but hate cooking for one.

I also make cranberry relish for Thanksgiving with oranges from my trees. I make all the traditional stuff, I like trying new recipes. One year I tried a brocolli, craisin, pine nut salad and now my kids insist we have it every year. I also make two kinds of stuffing, one regular and the other (my own recipe) is a stuffing with wild rice, waterchestnuts, mushrooms, chives, etc. New this year is a "mile high apple pie" and it's a little bit tart rather than super sweet like most pies. Hope it turns out.
