What Did They Learn In Church Today?

It certainly was NOT patience!!! My walk takes me past a very large Catholic church, and look out if you happen to be crossing the exit lot when they are leaving. I was crossing at the right of the vehicles and once again, NUTS just come on out speeding; practically not stopping at all and looking to their left (only). As my dog and I walk up to cross, they suddenly have to practically slam on their brakes. Hello, You are supposed to stop where you can still SEE the red and white of the stop sign, not have it in your rear view...
Must have been a big game on today.

HaHaHaHaHa !!!!

Let me tell y'all about living in the "Bible Belt...."

I live within a comfortable walking distance of 8 ... count'em EIGHT ... churches.
And 2 min. driving distance of 4 more.

Of these 12 churches ... 2 are mega-churches with more than 8,000 membership per church.

The 2 mega-churches and 6 of the remaining churches ALL are located on a major thoroughfare that pretty much runs the north-south length of the city.

Every Sunday morning... that's EVERY Sunday morning ...CITY POLICE in bright orange traffic vests direct traffic for a 5 mile stretch of this road. The mega-churches each have THREE services Sunday mornings. Most of the "normal" churches each have 2 services.

Sunday morning in my neighborhood is a nightmare (daymare!?)

All I want to do is go to the store to get a newspaper.
I just have to time it right!

What a fun thread. Reminded me of one small town not so far from here. The first 4 corners of the town all have churches. The next 4 corners have taverns. Different strokes and all that.

No surprise about that johnH56.
There has ALWAYS been an uneasy alliance between church and boozing down here.

No one has ever explained to me clearly how it is that the South makes some of the best liquor in the country (Kentucky Bourbon, Jack Daniels, etc. etc.) and still has schizophrenia about it.

Really interesting.

I love going to my church. But we aren't bothered with all that sin and hell stuff. We've a most excellent jazz band, decent choir, some good folk singers (and a feminist a capella group). The sermons challenge both the intellect and the heart. Most important, few people leave after service. We all head to the social hall afterwards and catch up with each other's lives. Besides church, we have all sorts of small groups, and throw some great dances with live music and lots of good food. Being an environmental bunch, lots of folks either walk or ride their bike to church. Others ride the bus.

But we are Unitarians. Lots of churches say we are headed for hell. We don't believe in hell. I guess when I die I'll find out who was right. Or not.
