A sad sign of the times...

I've read many articles stating that animal abandonment is on the rise because of the country's current financial crisis. People who can no longer care for their pets are taking them to shelters, leaving them on the side of the road, or leaving them behind when they move. This was posted on YouTube on November 20th, so this was just the other day and it is so sad. In Alexandria, LA, the owners have abandoned this house, leaving their dachshunds behind. Fortunately, this woman found them, but what if no one knew? And how precious and loving these puppies are...I hope and pray they will all find homes...

It is a very sad sign of the times. I would live in my camper if I couldn't take my dogs. The pound here is overwhelmed with pets that people couldn't take when they lost their homes & my real estate agent friend says she sees lots of pets locked in vacant houses when the owners move. HOW COULD THEY??

So sad , such beautiful furbabies. Hope they all get homes , and soon, as we all know the shelters are desperate for operating money.
I wish there was some way to find and FINE the so called humans who abandon ANY animal.
I love my 2 , and if forced to leave here , my babies will go with me.

I'd take them. I'd take every one them right now. I have room.

I think some Doxie rescue group that patrols the pounds would grab them up. I wish we could make sure tho...I don't want to worry & I know I will.

My heart aches for them. I often wonder what happen to my fur babies if something happened to me. Who would care for them. I can only pray that I will have time to find homes for them.

They are so precious ~ I don't know how anyone could leave them alone like this. I hope they will all be blessed quickly with wonderful forever loving homes.

Don't watch if you have a weak stomach!

Unfortunately, there are too many shelters across the country that are run like this. Taking animals to the shelter is NOT always the best answer.

I hope and pray that the lady that took the video of these babies and their parents, follows through and sees to it that they don't end up being a victim a second time. .

Just like Mac, I'd take everyone of them right now.

Thanks for the video, GG- I'll post it on the dachshund rescue website, and see if anyone knows about this, or has already rescued them all.

Last month, we took in over 135 dachshunds from a breeder that went out of business. They are dumping their dogs as fast as they can, because no one has the money to buy a puppy, and they can't afford to keep them and feed them. That's on top of all the others that were abandoned by their families.

I'm sure this was another case of what's called a 'backyard' breeder. People have their pets and then decide to breed them because they think their dogs are "special". But, they don't think about how they are going to feed them, or pay the vet bills. And then, if something happens- they're the first ones to go - like this group.

Sorry - seeing this kind of thing always gets me up on my soapbox. I know everyone here is responsible when it comes to their doxies and other pets - we just need to find a way to get to the others who aren't!

I couldn't watch it either...I get so upset & I'm a ruminator. I think about these things over & over whether I want to or not. I can handle anything that happens to people but never things that happen to animals. Those breeders...I got Jessie B. from one who was going to have her put to sleep as a puppy because she had gone over to another mother's box & was badly attacked. The woman didn't want her because she had scars. My friend rescued her & that's how she found us. If they have no $$ value, they have no value to them at all.
