Profound Words...

I saw this today, and althought I don't know who first said it, I thought it was profound:
"Freedom is something you give yourself, not a gift you get from another person."

Having recently extricated myself from a destructive relationship it is particularly poignant in my life.

It occured to me that this can be applied to everyone's life in one way or another.

How does it pertain to YOURS?

I am freeing myself from the chains of destructive and negative thinking that have held me in all of my life; no one can do it for me. I am changing the very way I think. And it is incredibly freeing; some days I think about it and just want to laugh delightedly.

I know what you mean, Katz... I have come to the same realizations... It has taken YEARS, and I still struggle with it occasionally, but I'm getting there.

My other favorite saying:
"Be patient, God isn't finished with me yet."

Oh, it is so profound. I also have freed myself from a...in retrospect...rediculas situation. Let me tell you, driving away was so liberating! Freedom is everything. I also believe in the lyrics from an Eagles song..."sometimes we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key."

I like that one katholmes!

I've heard it before, but I never really HEARD it... If you know what I mean.... :0)

ladystorm, I was having glimpses of the proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel" LONG before I actually got there.

Actually, I'm not QUITE there yet, but getting out of the prison (marriage) I was in was like leaping light-years ahead... Now just to graduate from school and get a job!... :0)

A psychiatrist friend of mine, who I knew way back when she was in a bad relationship with a dirt-bag freeloading husband, said it this way, other people only have the power over us we give them.

In the sense she meant that, I agree. She certainly knew what she was talking about.

If you ladies have mastered your fear, you're to be congratulated.

I don't know if it's "mastered," Wurdguy... But I'm feel that the tide has turned, and I am now winning the battle.

From what I read here, you've mastered your fear. You still experience it, but it isn't your master.
