"Science Proves Cats are Evil"

Oh, noooo...anybody who would say this (see last sentence on next-to-last paragraph) doesn't know what they're talking about, in my book, because people don't own cats; cats choose people and own them:

"even individuals with no experience of owning cats"

Here's the article:

"Have you ever thought that your cat really is evil, and is actively manipulating you to do it's bidding?

Science says that it is. Dr Karen McComb of the Centre for Mammal Vocal Communication Research at the University of Sussex has proof.

A BBC News report spoke to Dr. McComb, who stated that it appears that cats "learn to dramatically exaggerate it when it proves effective in generating a response from humans." According to the same report, studies have found that a domestic cat's cries are similar to that of human babies, and that's a sound humans are highly sensitive to.

"The cry embedded within the purr" study was published in the journal Current Biology in July and claims that cats actually exploit humans into caring for them, especially when it comes to filling those food dishes. The abstract states that "even individuals with no experience of owning cats judged the 'solicitation' purrs to be more urgent. "

How long before someone synthesizes those sounds to control humans? I'd write more, but someone's dish is empty, and I feel compelled to fill it."

I dont care what science says I'll never believe that cats are evil.I do believe they are highly intelligent and are able to understand humans far better then we are able to understand them, and thats why they know how to make us do things for them. But the rewards on being my kitties hired help are well worth anything I do for them.

My cats were all sweet even if one of them did really believe she was the queen of the world.

I don't believe that cats are evil ..... but they do manipulate us. My T&A are royalty and I am a devoted obedient subject...

Wow I've been brain washed by my kitties

Just because they've learned how to effictively communicate with us does not mean they're evil.

All intelligent animals learn what works to communicate with their humans better than other things. Dogs, cats, horses, pigs, birds, etc. It doesn't mean they are "evil," it means they are intelligent!

By the way, every human manipulates other people every day in some form or another - does that mean we are "evil" too?

Cats are not evil. Cats are intelligent beings. I live in harmony with my cats. All five of them. Yes if Babykat is hungry she will come and sit in front of me and stare at me until i take notice. When she wants me to get up and open the door for her early in the morning she will trample me over and over again or she will come and sit in front of my face and touch my cheek with her cold nose.
She has many other ways of communicating with me as do the four boys.

I am not sure what they are talking about when they say a cry embedded within a purr....?

My cats all do what i call a Muuuurrrrrrr it sounds like a sing song muuuuuuuurrrrrrr rather than a meooowwww....its a trilling sound and they do a short deeper sounding version of it if i sneak up and touch them without them knowing i am there (surprising them) and sometimes if one of them is walking towards me i will say...muuurrrrrr to the cat and it will actually often answer me with the same thing...we talk to each other...a Murrrr is a type of greeting they make....but also done when surprised. (try touching your cat when its napping or sitting looking out a window or something and see if you can get your cat to say Muuuurrrrrrr....
Sometimes my little boy Jasper muurrrrrssss cuz he is bored and looking for trouble.

Then there is the muuuurrrrr trilling chatter sound when they are looking out a window and see something they want like a bird....that is a cute sound and funny to watch their lip and teeth clack and chatter. lol

Yes our cats communicate with us and with each other....through body language and sounds.
I see nothing evil about it....and i never feel manipulated, any more than i feel manipulated when my 3 year old daughter gets my attention when she needs food or drink or help in some way...or when my baby grand son cries in hopes of getting someones attention when he needs something....all beings have ways to communicate in order to get their needs met. Thats not manipulation or evil its survival.

I have Jasper on my arm right now...while im sitting in my chair with my laptop on my lap and he is kissing my hand and chomping at it....and also trying to catch the little cursor in the screen....purring as loudly as he can....that is the sound of a contented baby with a full belly happily sitting in his mamas lap getting attenion! lol And that is not evil!

I think the idea that cats are evil originated with their somewhat frantic breeding practices. Some females almost perputually in heat - having one liter with more than one father, etc. This really bothered prudish, religious people.
