Thinking about the Holidays

Which holiday is your favorite and why?

Do you have a good holiday story to share?

I was one of 9 children born to a man who thought that he was Santa. My dad loved Christmas shopping and made sure that his children had Huge piles of Christmas gifts. I don't think there was ever a year that we didn't have someone upset or crying because Santa either got confused or forgot something though.
One year my younger brother had his heart set on some toy that wasn't under the tree or anywhere in the house. He was so hurt and angry that nothing made him happy. My younger sister taunted him because of course she got the doll she wanted. After putting up with her rubbing it in all day, he had just about had enough. She bragged one more time and he grabbed that doll and said something about seeing if she could fly and he swung her around and let loose. Chatty baby could fly and she flew right through a huge bay window...in the snow....It was surely a Christmas we will not forget....Santa was pissed!! and you try finding a big piece of lumber to cover a bay window on Xmas day in the very early 60's.....remember the days when stores were closed on Xmas???

I love Christmas. It's my all time favorite. I have a collection of Christmas houses and always set that up on a cabinet in the living room. One year I found some pink flamingoes with Christmas wreaths to add to the scene. This is FL and I thought no Xmas village should be without appropriately attired pink flamingoes. As I was looking over the scene one day, I noticed a couple of the birds were missing. My cat Mabel had liked them, thought they were new toys for her, swiped them from the Xmas village, and was playing with them. Not as exciting as lost's story, I know.

Most of the time my cats have ignored the tree. I did have one who climbed the thing and pulled it over one year. Then there were several cats who liked taking ornaments off the tree, so I made sure all the ones on the bottom were unbreakable or cloth. There was also the year the bottom third of the tree had no lights because my younger son's girlfriend's cat (she lived with us) would bite the wires on the light strings. I didn't want an electrified kitty.

My daughter's dogs knocked her tree down a couple of years ago...it wasn't really funny but I laughed anyway....

It's always funny when it happens to someone else.

Had a Siamese cat that also got up into the tree and knocked it over. Everyone was pissed when I made putting the tree back up a family project. It wasn't so funny then. heh, heh.

I love Christmas the best of all the holidays because its Christs birthday. I really dont have any
funny stories to tell, but the one Christmas that sticks out the most would be 1963,thats the year
the twins were born on the 21st of December. We didnt have a tree up or any of the trappings
that go along with Christmas,i was 12 that year and in charge of 4 younger siblings while my mom
was in the hospital and my dad was working. All i wanted was my mom home on Christmas day and
remember crying all day because she wasnt there. My dad went to the hospital on Christmas day to
see mom and the babies and some good samaratin neighbors that knew mom wasnt home brought
over a plate of sandwiches and cookies for us to eat. I can still remember that the turkey was still warm
on the sandwiches and to this day i dont believe i've ever had a sandwich that tasted as good as those did.
Our mom came home on my birthday the 26th with the babies and 3 days later she hemorraged
and very nearly died before daddy got her back to the hospital. Talk about being over whelmed as a kid
there i was at age 12 with 6 siblings to take care of and 2 of them newborns,Mark was just a toddler
at 14 months old,Kathleen was 10,Norma was 8 and Brenda was 6. I grew up that Christmas in a hurry
and learned a life lesson. I learned to pray and to know how precious the gift of life is and that the best
presents cant be bought, but are given in the way of a blessing by a childs prayers being answered.I learned the true meaning of giving from those neighbors that fed 5 hungry kids on Christmas day from their
table.
