I have never been part of the Black Friday frenzy anyway. Its too crazy making for me. I prefer to do my shopping based on who the ones I am giving to is...and who can afford to buy themselves a New TV or washer and dryer between Thanksgiving and Christmas time anyway??? Maybe someone who could afford to buy one at a good sale price anytime during the year. and if they can afford it, why do it when there is so much Holiday confusion??? It never did make any sense to me. I would rather be filling stockings and making ginger bread houses. But thats just me.

I usually go to thrift stores. This year I am doing the anti Black Friday event here in Tucson on Fourth Ave. It is all about shopping at small local business'. After all that is who we need to support.

I can sure relate. The one and only time I lined up at 4 am, in the cold, shivering, too, it was for a Black Friday sale, a Tom Tom GPS being offered at a great price. Although I was maybe 10th in line, by the time I got to the display, however many they had were gone. I suspect they had maybe two, at most. For that is the number I counted at the checkout line. I did manage to pick up a $30 laptop mouse for $10. But it sure wasn't worth standing out in the cold for an hour or more to get it.

If I can't get what I want online anymore, or at a thrift shop, I'm not likely to end up with it at all.

Thanks for the link. I wasn't planning to go shopping on Black Friday anyway, but now I am convinced that I won't. I did go one year, with my daughter, and we had a good time. But, we didn't go at 4 and we weren't looking for the doorbuster items, either.

If I shop at all on Black Friday, I think I'll go to the local merchants' stores and support them. But it won't be much: I'm not giving big gifts this year.

I don't shop on Black Friday. I can't understand how people can go to the store at 4am just to get a bargain. I don't usually buy big gifts anymore. My children are all grown, with families and able to buy the big things for themselves. I don't think it's the price or size of the gift that is important, but the thought and care in finding the right thing that counts.

I don't do Black Friday either. That is our day as a family to go out, hike up a mountainside, and cut down Christmas trees for our daughter's family and us.

Didn't read/view the link yet. I've never gone out shopping on Black Friday. Back when I had money to shop for gifts, I waited until a few days before xmas. (Tee-hee!)

Anyway, I'm happy to read these comments. I just got hired as a seasonal/part-time/temp at the Macy's/Marshall Field's here in Chicago. My first day of work will be Black Friday. I'll be happily surprised if it's slow. It'll give me time to learn how to swim after being dropped into the deep end of the swimming pool.

BTW: I just heard yesterday (at a new employee orientation) why it's called "Black Friday". Does everyone else know already?

One year, one daughter and I went at 5 AM, just for the fun of it, to say we did it once. It was really weird. There was almost as much traffic at 5 AM as at 11 AM.

One of the salespeople told us that other than the bogus door buster items, they had everything that was supposed on special sale at the same price until Christmas. LOL

That is dirty. I don't shop on that day, and I don't look forward to news of death and injury caused by it, either. I was floored to learn someone had been trampled to death at a WalMart last year.
