Sex with dead people now illegal in California
Having sex with corpses is now officially illegal in California after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill barring necrophilia, a spokeswoman said on Friday

Necrophilia has been illegal, to my knowledge, in every state. I did not know California had to close that loophole to desecration of a corpse.

Do you have a legitimate news link for this story about Scharznegger recently signing such a bill?

No I can't, but we can still discuss the subject matter. Here in AZ, we only passed a law against having sex with animals about 2 years ago. One would think that was already illegal also. So it would not surprise me if some states still had not handled having sex with the dead also.

Well, that blog blurb was from 2004, the link doesn't work, and searching Reuters for necrophilia turned up nothing in news.

Ok, but this is an Exploring Psychology group. I was more interested in your thoughts on the behavior, not necessarily the link about California.

I think that those who are necrophiliacs should be helped, not punished.

Question: is an act of necrophilia a "victimless crime"?

I am not convinced that anything done to a dead body should be punishable by prison.

I think that necrophilia wrong in the same way that rape of somebody bound and gagged (or otherwise immobilized) is wrong. We are not talking about an inanimate object (like a blow-up doll) here but a formerly living human being.

But "a former living human being" is, by definition, an inanimate object.

I think that there is an immense difference between raping "somebody bound and gagged (or otherwise immobilized)" and having sex ("raping"?) a corpse.

If the person who is having sex done to it is dead, is that rape?

And I agree with Searching, it seems to be a victimless crime. I wonder why culture throughout the ages has venerated dead bodies?
