Yes, the retailers push EVERY HOLIDAY EARLY NOT JUST CHRISTMAS! Now, as I wrote in another topic about this.........We have our Lights up...and decorations out this is because the weather has been mild and we don't want to put them up during a snow storm or wind etc and the past weekends have been great to get this done. The lights are NOT turned on until Thanksgiving Evening. It is an OPTION for everyone whether or not you want to celebrate and you don't have to watch the advertisement nor patronize the stores. No one is putting a gun to your head and telling you to shop. We do not go overboard with buying gifts AND I might add that when we do shop and spend what little money we can afford it will help stimulate the economy some (hopefully) so as that people can perhaps keep their jobs. Is it any wonder WHY this world is going into the toilet with all the negativity and attitudes..........geesh Personally I CHOOSE TO CELEBRATE it helps ease what is going on in our lives now e.g. Son with Cancer.......Daughter with respiratory problems etc...................
In this economy, the less you buy, the more it will be advertised. The retail stores bank on the Christmas season to keep them afloat. If you are committed in making the ads stop, then a commitment of many years by most of the population would be necessary. I don't see that happening. If you want to refuse to buy presents in your family, that's your perogative. If you don't like the ads or commercials, stop being where they are. Turn the knob, don't look at the ads, don't go into stores.
Personally, I don't go to any stores except for what I absolutely need throughout the year, but I visit the upscale stores to see their decorations at Christmastime. I buy at most a half-dozen presents. And the upscale stores don't get my money because I don't have much. But I still like to see the decorations.
Jeez, people! Lighten up and enjoy the colors and decorations before we get back into bleak January and February. This "taking Christ out of Christmas" only happens in your mindset.

I am not an organized religion person but I do have my own spirituality. Personally all the early decorations and sales promotions don't actually detract from the real reason for Christmas....it (the real reason) will exist as long as Christianity----quit bah-humbugging and let people enjoy the lights/decorations--do things your own way and let others do theirs their way---can't we all just get along? I'm shooting for digging the tree and decorations out of my storage closet later today--may not actually get it up/done before Thursday but I enjoy the decorations, lights, and music....it sure beats sitting around listening to the depressing news.
I started seeing Xmas decorations for sale at the Walmart here a couple weeks after Labor Day !!!! It was only 1/2 of an aisle,, but every week it took up a lil bit more space,, until now ,, the xmas cards, decorations, toys, etc takes up an entire dept in itself ,, This is the biggest time of the year for retailers,, and they looking at the bottom line.. Personally ,, I'm trying to get away from all the commercialism of it and get to the REAL meaning on the season,, Peace on earth and Good will to man.. volunteer in a soup kitchen,, donate old clothes, food , and get closer to God no matter what you percieve him, her, or it to be
NO1BOOKMARK, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR POSTING THE VIDEO.........I ALREADY SAW IT, PLAY IT AND YA KNOW WHAT I AM GOING TO PLAY IT ON THE LOUD SPEAKER ALONG WITH THE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS AND LIGHTS THAT LOOK 10 TIMES MORE THAN THE GRISWOLDS.....
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
HEY AT MY AGE THE MORE MERRIMENT AND FELLOWSHIP THE BETTER ~ who knows how many of us will have the opportunity to CELEBRATE next year!
PS I am PROUD of all of you with your reples/comments!
What do you mean, pretty soon. Just count the number of families which leave their twinkle lights up all year around.
I don't know much about marketing, but I don't see how dragging out the "shopping season" is going to get anyone to buy more gifts or spend more money.
I don't think it changes the shoppers perception that the best bargains are had on the waning days when the merchants may be stuck with overstocked Xmas stuff.
Then again, it gives the rug rats more time for whining and begging
Hmmm, I just might be wrong.............
A month away (and a few days) I have been reading on other groups about Christmas and how annoyed they are because the retailers etc seem to push it earlier every year....perhaps so but when I thought about it
Here's Another Thought:
(Idon't know about all of you) but as a child I COULD NOT WAIT UNTIL we could start dreamin, wishin, and writing our Christmas Wish List from the small catalogs our parents would receive....e.g. Sears, Brand Names, Noah's Ark Etc.......How many of you did the same thing.......writing our lists on notebook paper...better than we would do our homework nice and neat and number each item with the ONE real gift you wanted to receive as NO. 1...........wrote out the item, description, catalog it was in and page number and item number or letter! Have we lost that enthusiam now that we are older WHAT HAS HAPPEND THAT YOU ARE UPSET BECAUSE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS ARE UP AND STORES HAVE STARTED TO SELL CHRISTMAS GOODS? I THINK IT IS GOOD TO HAVE THIS DISTRACTION TO TAKE AWAY THE GLOOM AND DOOM WE ARE NOW EXPERIENCING IN EVERYDAY LIFE? And, why feel that way about CHILDREN (not all children are rug rats that whine and beg) they are just that CHILDREN WHY NOT LET THEM BE CHILDREN and enoy their youth and the coming of Christmas All too soon they will be adults and old and grouchy like us! LOL
I think Brewguru is right. I think the Clunkers program showed that people may run to buy a bargain (well, it was supposed to be a bargain), but that will be it. Once the things are bought, people won't continue to spend no matter how long the marketing goes on. This is especially true now as, after a long period of crazy spending, people are being much more careful, and some of them are even SAVING.
