Das People's Nascar

Volkswagon, I gotta see this!

HOMESTEAD, Florida -- The head of Volkswagen's motor sports program is at Homestead-Miami Speedway, fueling speculation that the automaker is interested in joining Toyota as the second foreign manufacturer in NASCAR.

Top NASCAR officials confirmed to The Associated Press that Hans-Joachim Stuck met with the sanctioning body on Saturday at the track. The officials requested anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the meeting.

You know - maybe this is a good thing! Toyota has been good for the sport as far as I can tell. A little German engineering will be interesting. It will keep more good drivers employed. How many drivers may have had their last race yesterday?? There are plenty still looking for 2010 rides.

And while we are talking about it, I want to say that I would love for NASCAR to go back to American automakers using "stock" cars. But it ain't gonna happen. No way, no how. The automakers are in deep crap and we are lucky they didn't all pull up their wagons and go home. The owners have invested too much time and money into the COT for them to redesign the car now. Learn to live with change, it is here to stay.

the key for volkswagon is they must have an american factory which i believe will be done by 2012.... they may first test the product in the can-am side of things and then move thru the other venues
