We have babies!!!

As many of you may remember about two months ago we lost our Gracie who was Carmel's mother dog. Carmel went through some sadness and adjusted well to being the only doggie, but she seemed to just be lonely. This is probably since she was a baby she has been with her momma doggie and so we thought maybe next spring we would look into getting her a new playmate. Then as the days went on we thought well what about for New Years! And finally we said well ok for christmas we will get her a baby. So not worrying about it or even thinking about it, on our way to town to get burgers we saw a "FREE PUPPIES" sign and both of us mentioned it out loud and Carmel got all excited. So on our way back home we decided to stop and see what they had, fully expecting for these babies to be huskies or shepherds or Rotties, but actually not, they are some kind of terrier and beagle mix. So we were looking at the three they had left and we could not decide which one because they seemed so bonded with one another. So after some discussion we decided ok, we will take all three.

I do not have a picture yet but Carmel is being very protective and watchfull of them. They are doing well, but this is their first nite away from their momma doggie. So our family has grown and I will post a picture soon.

Sounds like Carmel loves her new brothers and sisters already. And those new puppies are so lucky that they got adopted together.

I can't wait to see their photos.

These little babies are just learning to bark and they wrestle and growl at each other, so when Carmel growls at them, they are oblivious and just keep on heading towards her. We kinda have to run interference. Our cats are adjusting to the new additions, there are 13 of them and most love to be outside. We live on 15 acres of woods so they have plenty of room to grow and play.

Pictures coming soon,,,,,,,

Kids!! They have to learn to respect their elders, don't they? That's good that you're keeping an eye on things until the puppies learn the boundaries of what Carmel is willing to tolerate. I'm sure they'll get the hang of it real soon.

Carmel is still adjusting and even though there are small improvements we are trying to be patient with all of them. The new puppies are learning those boundries for Carmel and the kitty cats that come in once in awhile. Mostly the cats are ignoring them and just watching from perches and a distance. They are starting to make noise and they need some one there while they fall asleep and then they pile up on their pillow and sleep for a while.

We fed them a treat of moist doggie/puppie food on two plates one for them and one for Carmel. So she does not feel left out. They got done with theirs and one of them went over to help Carmel and she let her, then her brother came over and Carmel gave up the plate for them. I think it should be recognized that Carmel does not usually share with anyone even with her mother before she died. So this is a giant step for her.

They are becoming our family and that is cool.

Congrats on the new babies and please give Carmel a big hug from me. It sounds like she is adapting well and this may have been just what she needed. What fun to watch puppies grow!

We fostered a golden retriever for a rescue group a few years ago. She had her puppies less than 48 hours after she joined our household - 11 live and 2 stillborn. None of them looked like her. We had 8 cats then and both Ace and Conqueso would watch over the puppies when they were really young and Conqueso would even get into the bed and lie with them when the mother had to go outside for a break. The rest of my cats mostly ignored the babies. It was a lot of work and a big mess, but so much fun to watch them grow until they all found homes. I wouldn't have missed it for anything!

Have fun!

Here are the pictures that I have been promising. They are too cute. Please enjoy!!!

THIS ONE IS CALLED CARMEL AND CREW HERE IS THE SECOND CARMEL AND CREW

They seem to be getting along much easier now, today was the first day that Carmel let them this close to her, before she would smile and show her teeth really clearly and growl at them. But these three are just not to be told no, they chased her all day and she would go from the living room couch to the back office and get on her bed and they of course would follow her. We of course were carefully watching to make sure nothing got out of line. So we are making headway,,,,,,
