Yeah...I sure could use some motivation today!
maybe you need the rest..................if you feel like you do, then do it! I try to make Sundays my do nothing days and watch movies all day to let my body rejuvenate and my mind too. Now tomorrow it's back to kicking MS's butt!!!!! Go get a pedicure or a manicure................or a massage. Be kind to yourself one day a week, one day a week, let it all go. ORRRRRRRRRR you can sit and think about the fresh turnip greens I'm fixing to cook...........hehehehehe
Katie, what time is dinner? I enjoy cooking, and now cook much simpler, but greens is one thing I could never get down, no mater how many times I've tried! So, what's the secret?? Do tell!
That's a good idea, what you do for yourself, every Sunday. And it sounds like you look forward to it, and don't feel guilty in taking care of YOU! Awesome!! And facing Mondays with a positive attitude! Nice!!
I like turnip greens better BEFORE the frost hits them. Frost makes them bitter. Also, they need grease or oil in them. It helps soften them. Of course, don't forget to season them.
Katie,
Never heard that about greens and being bitter once the frost hits. I repeatedly tried in the dead of summer, so that's not my excuse! lol what do you season with? You don't mix different kinds of greens together?
I usualy cook just turnip, but I do like all kinds of greens. Normally I season with oil and bouillon, but occasionally I'll use some ham. I don't have a patch of greens, so I am at the mercy of someone that does. If you pick them just right, they'll be tender in no time. If you get them AFTER they are frosted on , par boil them, then drain that liquid off (we call it "pot likker") and start with new water. That will lessen the bitterness.
Now you have me wanting to try greens, just one more time!! You hit the nail on the head...no matter what I do, they are bitter. I don't grow the greens, buy them. But next time, I'm going to just try turnip greens. I always combined two greens, someone once told me, that was the reason for bitterness, only cooking one kind opposed to a combo! Thanks for the advice!
