We Bet This Flick's A Real Turkey!

HEATH -- Many people think of Thanksgiving as a day for family, football and pumpkin pie.
But Jordan Downey always will associate the holiday with a deranged turkey stalking college students through the woods of Licking County.
Downey, a Granville native, and his friend Kevin Stewart created the movie "ThanksKilling" in 2007 when they were film production students at Loyola Marymount University.
The independent film was released on DVD on Tuesday and will premiere in Columbus on Sunday at Studio 35 Cinema and Drafthouse.
The 70-minute movie tells the story of five college students on their way home for Thanksgiving break and are killed off one by one by an evil turkey.
Downey and Smith came up with the idea for the film during their junior year after watching a bad horror movie.
"I've always been a horror fan, especially the cheesy straight-to-DVD movies," Downey said. "But we got tired of them. So many had cool posters and tag lines but were not entertaining. So we decided to make one as a joke."
Within a few hours, the friends had developed the concept for their movie. They decided it would take place on Thanksgiving --a holiday not often mentioned in horror films -- and have a unique villain.
"We wanted to create a movie, but we didn't want to do the same old thing about a guy in a mask," Downey said.
