Let's Talk. . .Thanksgiving Meal

Photobucket

This year it will be my husband, stepson and myself and I will be cooking. The menu will be simple since I'm planning a trip to Raleigh for a few days with my sons.

Menu will be Turkey, cornbread & sausage dressing, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, corn cranberry relish and pumpkin pie with whipped cream.

What are your plans? Will you be cooking and if so what is on your menu for Thanksgiving?

Good Morning Joanie and everyone! Thanksgiving dinner has always been my favorite of all holiday meals. Traditionally we have always had turkey and the usual trimmings. One year, as I remember we strayed and just had a breast of turkey and a small ham... not as well received! Leftovers are so important in our household, it seems.

This year's delema... there will only be three of us at the dining table! Soooo, I am again opting for just the breast of the bird and small portions of dressing and veggies. There will be apple tart and pumpkin pies. My secret to a beautiful mahogany colored roasted turkey and a slightly darker, delicious gravy is my basting with sweet vermouth wine and butter!

Hey it's only Sat. 21st and you guys have my mouth watering. Our family scatters for Thanksgiving in order to share themselves with other family members. I have a big Christmas at my house with everyone. This year we'll either go out, or have a small gathering for brunch or early dinner. We enjoy eating just about everything, but my favorite dessert is pecan pie with a pile of whipped cream.

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, baked beans, green bean salad, fruit salad, candied yams, fruit salad, ham, vegetarian casserole, veggie stuffing, veggie baked beans, pumpkin pie, and a creamy Carmel, pecan dessert. Oh and a vegetable or relish tray. Course there will be cranberry sauce and all those things. A little something for everyone.

Jimmy, have you ever thought of having a small turkey, (10 lbs. or so), and having it sliced down the middle so that you can still have white and dark, just not so much of it. That's what I WAS going to do since it looked like it would only be the two of us this year. Now, it's been decided that I will bring the dinner to my mom's and serve it there. My oldest daughter, youngest son, and my granddaughter will be there. I guess I'd better cook the whole thing, huh? LOL! Anyway, my family likes all the trimmings with it, so I'll also be making the traditional herbed bread stuffing, a broccoli casserole, some homemade rolls, mashed 'taters and gravy, and a few baked sweet ones. My daughter is making the pies this year including my favorites, sweet potato and a custard pie. She's also making a sweet potato casserole that my sister used to make each year. And yes, we'll have leftovers for at least a couple of days afterward...LOL!

Years ago, as my parents family dinners grew smaller, my dad would buy a cut in half turkey, cook half and freeze the other for later... great idea. For this year, I have already purchased a fresh breast of turkey, under 7 lbs. for the three of us... and leftovers, of course!
