I borrowed this poem from another group. I can relate to the very last line. lol
Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep,
I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned - the dark meat and white,
But I fought off the temptation with all of my might.
I tossed and I turned with sweet anticipation,
As the thought of a snack became infatuation.
So I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
And gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
'Til all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky
With a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie.
But I managed to yell as I soared past the trees...
Happy eating to all! Pass the cranberries, please!
May your stuffing be tasty, may your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes & gravy have nary a lump,
May your yams be delicious, may your pies take the prize,
May your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs.
I will be cooking this Thanksgiving for my husband, stepson and myself. The menu will be turkey, cornbread & sausage stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, corn, green beans, cranberry relish and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. I'm keeping it basic. I usually use this long weekend to visit sons, daughter-in-law and grandsons so I will be driving to Raleigh on Friday. I avoid the malls on the Friday after thanksgiving.
My youngest has requested that I paint his bathroom. That might need to be his Christmas present.
Well this year we are going out to a lovely restaurant and having dinner with my middle daughter and her family. My husbands daughter that lives with us will be with us also. But in the evening we will join with the rest of the family for desert. One of the best parts, don"t you think? I did buy a turkey and will cook it on Sat. I just have to have the leftovers!!!! Love the poem. Have a great holiday and yes stay out of the malls, too crazy for me!!!!
We will be going to my son-in-laws family. My oldest daughter, Carol, and her husband live here so I spend winter holidays with them. Carol and I are going to Denver the weekend after Thanksgiving where my youngest daughter lives. It will be a short trip but we will get to hear my grandson sing with his choir.
I have my quilt top finished but no quilting done yet. Don't know if I will get it done before Christmas as I need to make some gifts.
I'll be cooking this year, but just for six of us so not too much food. We're sort of informal here. I cook early and everyone helps themselves all day. They'll be coming and going all day so no sit-down dinner is possible which suits me fine. I get to sit and chat more one-on-one this way. I'll spend the weekend quilting. My crowded mall days are long gone and the bargains are usually on things I don't need anyway.
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving,
Diane
We will be taking my 2 granddaughters and going to my sons SO's. I have always said that someday I wanted to be the one taking the jello and not cooking and it has finally happened!! Will spend the rest of the weekend sewing and doing whatever I choose. I am not a shopper so will stay home.
We will have traditional turkey dinner on Thanksgiving at my brother's house. It will be our mom, my bro and SIL, his son and myself. Then we'll watch the U of TX vx TX A&M football game. Should be fun since my bro is an Aggie (A&M) and my nephew is a Longhorn (UT) . Then on Friday we'll head an hour and a half northwest to have dinner with my SIL's family.
Sherry in TX
We will be driving out Wednesday to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving with family, so I will not be on line for a while. But I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving day!
We had our Thanksgiving dinner yeasterday with the family here so we could go down to the beach condo in Hilton Head, SC for the long weekend.
But I bought a used midarm quilting machine and frame yesterday!!!! Yup, thre inteh turkey and went to pick up the machine while dinner cooked.
It is being setup as I sit here and type. Rick even had a big design wall put up for me. And Rick just bought himself an embroidery machine. Se we may just stay home and reorganize our new quilting studio and put things away and play with our big new toys!!!
I have quilt tops to get working one. One is due in Las Vegas when I visit in a couple weeks. I have got to go practice. That will be the second quilt I do.
Sounds like Christmas already at your house Gasweetie. Let us know how you like your longarm after you complete your first quilt.
Cute Turkey! Everyone is coming to our house for Thanksgiving. We'll be having between 24 and 26. We're setting up three tables that run from the kitchen through the living room - almost wall to wall. I got the turkeys on Saturday and had to go in twice because they were allowing one to a customer at the special price.
I found out two things. The first is that frozen turkeys are REALLY cold, slippery, hard and difficult to pull out from under other turkeys because of their shape. With numb fingers, I finally found a 20 pounder and high tailed it to the register to check out, put turkey number 1 in the car before going back in for number 2.
On the return attempt, I ended up almost falling head first into the freezer trying to get to the bottom where I hoped to find a large turkey but they were all 15 pounders at that end. My feet were flying off the floor behind me as I stretched to the bottom of the opposite side. I don't even want to think of the picture of me seesawing on the edge of the freezer.
Coming up for air and chatting with others about the need for enough turkey for 26, a woman on the other end offered up the 24 pound Tom her little son had found. I wanted to kiss him but figured I had done enough questionable things already.
Thanking her, I pulled the 17 pounder I had placed in my cart - just in case -and offered it up to the others still trying vainly to find something larger than 15 pounds. Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, I went off to do the rest of my shopping.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
